smooth sidewall tires

I have used BFG T/A tires in the past on several cars as I favored the clean sidewall, however was curious what brands others have found in this respect. It seems many manufactures have adopted the grooved side walls for some reason. Currently looking for blackwall 205/65/15 fronts & 235/75/15 rears. Thanks,Ron

If you want smooth side walls you can buff off the letters, etc. with an electric sander.

Thanks cmbrucew, I have in fact viewed an on line video with regards to buffing the sidewalls, however not necessarily looking for a completely smooth sidewall but rather something without all the busy hash marks etc.

Are you taking about the groves at the outer edge like the firestones? Done people call them pie crusts.

For a fairly clean sidewall on blackwalls I have been using Cooper's.

I'm curious as to why all the "stuff" on the sidewalls of so many tires today.

Thanks, Will continue to welcome anyone who cares to chime in as the 32 won't be out till mother nature permits,the current tires are 25 year old Michelin's with just 5100 miles which look good however as one can imagine a detectable lumpy ride & are rather risky to even make local cruise nites. I have looked at the Michelin & Cooper brands which are fairly smooth however have rather large sidewall logo, all others aside from BFG's seem to have the grooves on the sidewalls.

I know what people are saying. The old tyres were plain, with just a few letters for the makers name and logo and the size. Very little else. Now the whole sidewall is covered in ribs and massive writing and all sorts of extra info. As long as the tyres are symmetrical, they ought to make them with a plain (minimum legally required info) and a busy (all the stuff) side and the owner can choose which side to have on show.

Yeah, these sidewalls are crazy busy, I do have a set of older Continental tires on a trailer, will need to check the more recent availability to see if they are as clean as the older ones.

My Dodge Magnum came with Continental tires. They only lasted about 20,000 miles and there was a class action suit against Continental for their lousy tires. Unless they have cleaned up their act I would stay away from Continental.

Just 're shod a customers mg, the new tyres had bloody flowers on the side wall !!! He scuffed them off with a DA.

Good tires but a bit heavy on the wallet not certain if they carry blackwalls.

If you check their website or catalog, blackwalls are available on most tires with the option of 3 different shades.

I humbly stand corrected as I didn't scroll completely through the d.b. web site,in addition if I'm reading the blackwall info. correctly it states to deduct $50 per tire for smooth sidewalls ???? easier to mold ? licensing cheaper ???
