Default Finding correct paint for 43 ford truck

I Have been able to find the 8 colors available in 1943, but finding a supplier that has the formula for the colors has been a challenge. Any ideas?

Colors, Vermillion red, Florentine blue, new castle gray, Niles blue green, Fathom blue, Moselle maroon, Village green, Greenfield green

Im leaning towards the Greenfield green or maroon

Olive drab & black would have been the most common color for 1943. Ford only made military vehicles from late 1942 thru most of 1944.

The auto color library by TCP Global has the old codes but most are meaningless unless they have mixing color recipes of colors that are still in use. TCP Global can mix them in name brand paints but I don't know how accurate the color matches are.

Thumbs up Re: Finding correct paint for 43 ford truck

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...r=1942&rows=50
The above shows the 1942 codes, and as mentioned '43-'45 is military. go to the paintref website and it gives the proper mixes.
You can also go to the left side of the chart to see photos of colors on vehicles.
Greenfield Green seems to be a '46 color.

I found a auto body supply store that knows its way around old vehicles and their colors, I am leaning towards moselle maroon. The 2 greens are almost black in color. Thanks for your help.

According to the Green bible "No civilian cars or trucks were manufactured during the year 1943"

Did you find chips or just names?
I can't count the number of times I've looked at commercial colors in the paint manufacturers color chip books and found a close match that with some tinting worked out well.

The supply store had the chips. I was glad to see them because it allowed me to see how dark the green colors were. The maroon is dark as well but the truck is maroon now and looks pretty good so it will stay that color. The title confirms it is a 1943 Ford. It was purchased to be a tanker truck for Quonset Point Naval Base Fire dept. in Rhode Island. The tank is missing and truck was taken apart. All the parts seem to be there and hoping to have it ready to flip in the spring.

Just curious, What is the best way to remove paint to determine if there is lettering underneath. I'm guessing fine sandpaper? I'm thinking if this was a fire truck there should be some kind if print on the doors.

Sorry for ignorance, what does "ready to flip in the spring mean"?

I worked a fire house by contract while I was imployed at a little airport in Kansas. The firehouse was equipped with an old WWII Internation fire truck and a late model foam truck. Both were red but the old IH was flaking in places and OD was showing underneath. Most of the old 500 class series Ford Fire trucks were painted red after the war but they were olive drab or dark navy blue when they left FoMoCo for the various military installations that sprang up during the war. Many of the old trucks replaced even older local community fire vehicles after they were surplused out of the military. Many were given to civilan communiities that still had some pretty old equipment from closer to the WWI era in use.

Everything was rationed during the war and paints were next to impossible to get. Only old supplies were available and they didn't last long.

Flip it in the spring means that it will go up for sale in the spring. I bought it to sell.

Yeah, we've seen quick flips on houses too. Do more damage than is repairable in the shortest time possible. Do the buyer a favor and sell it as is. Not the kind of "restoration" any of us want to be involved in.

I agree. Looking at the condition of that truck in your photo the type of buyer that might be looking for a vintage truck would probably just drive it "as is" while giving some thought on what if any restoration he might want to do to it. I drove my truck with its the fresh off the farm finery for 10 years and got as many "oohs and ahs" as I do now that its restored.

Is "flip" just used if you buy something to sell it?

I appreciate your advice, but I bought it dismantled. The engines oil pan was even loose, If I hadn't removed it I wouldn't have found the stripped stud on one of the connecting rods. The paint was peeling off the back of the cab and the frame was rusty. The guy that bought it before me was in the middle of a restoration. If it was together and running I would have just resold it. I am not rebuilding the engine just making it mechanically sound. It came with 6 new tires and the interior kit. Believe me I like patina too. I will put it back together and make it presentable.

Yes. Typically, the idiom is 'quick flip' and the new owner looks to sell very soon after taking possession.
