Default F-1 factory paint colors

My customer and I have been looking and coming up kinda confused. Can’t find any real circumstantial proof of what colors came on his ‘49 F-1. It is a barn find that still has the factory paint. It is dark blue. I thought it was Barcelona blue but I have found some sites that don’t list that as a color option in ‘49. It also has body color wheels, only evident after taking hubcaps off. Any help on what this color is called?

My 52 is Sheridan Blue. Very dark blue. I believe that color was available in 48.

dark blue in 49 would have been "Sheridan Blue" which is one of the best colors in my opinion for these trucks. Black, Sheridan Blue and Meadow Green they all look really good.

You can search some period and later; Dupont, sherwin Williams or Ditzler paint charts on Ebay, they're not usually too much money. Another printed source for colors is the Salesman Data Books.

...Doing some research and i don't think the Sheridan Blue came out until 1950? I don't have a Data book from 49 so its hard to say.

There weren't paint codes on the glove box tags in '48-50 - nor any door post data plates. Some trucks had factory and paint codes hand stamped on the upper firewall/cowl area of the engine bay.

Thanks for all the responses. So Barcelona blue was not a paint color for ‘49? I will look at the firewall and see if I have any numbers stamped. There is nothing on the tag on the glove box door that relates to color.

Bayview Blue Poly was the paint color name, not Barcelona Blue for Fords in 1949 but I think it was for cars, that is what I saw on the Ditzler or Dupont paint chart with that name and color on it also a dark blue. It was listed for sale on Ebay. It looks like a nice dark blue color for what its worth. I guess if originality isn't super important just go with what you like. Modern paint makers and suppliers have the old formulas for these colors.

He wants to keep the original paint as it is a perfect barn find and he wants a truck that looks like a survivor. There are two small patches I have to do so that is why we were wondering the paint color so we can blend in the paint on the patch to match the truck.

Good paint stores have a scanner that can scan the existing paint and custom mix the paint to match.

Yes and they're are even painters who can blend in some careful, see restrained, use of a faux patina to match original paint like that. Should be interesting. Show us some picture please!

I am one of those guys that can blend in faux paint and patina. Have done it quite a lot. Here is a pic of the truck.

Nice! Rust always looks better on a blue truck.
