Default Water in the oil.........still

Hey Guys,
Had water in my oil and suspected a cracked head. I was. Got a new head and had it trued and replaced it with a new gasket. New studs also. Everything was torqued back down per Les Andrews and fired her up.
Still getting water in my oil. I think I'm going to start looking for a new block rather than tearing this down again. I'm thinking I'm starting to throw good money after bad.
What Say Ye??
Thanks,
Pete

Not only did Model A engines crack at the rear to the outside, they also were known to crack in the valve chamber between #2 # #3 cylinders. They also will crack between the same two cylinders on the top deck, which might allow water into the oil when sitting.

You know it takes a while to get all the water flushed out. There is almost a quart in the valve chamber and the dipper tray. If you didn't pull the pan and clean out the valve chamber you will have water in your oil.

James,
That's somewhat encouraging. I put 4qts. in and read just above the "F" on the stick. Now it's up about about 1/8" in 3 days of sitting. I replaced a valve when i did the head so the valve chamber is clean.

Peter, let it sit for several days without moving it. Drain the oil and see if any water comes out when you first pull the plug. Water is heavier than oil so, it sinks to the bottom and will come out first. I don't like the increase in the level but this may just be your imagination playing tricks.

In addition to what James suggested, pull the valve cover off, wipe out all remmanents of oil - get it clean in there - and as it sits for the several days you can watch for evidence of water and where it is coming from - if it is cracked. Good luck and we hope you find no water.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the positive input. I was just hoping I could move on to working on the body etc. rather than be hung up on the engine. I'll drain off about a quart of "oil" and mark the dipstick. I did put a bottle of Bar's Leak to see if that may help as I can't go a replacement engine.

For a stop leak, try "K-Seal" - comes in blue bottle (mini anti-freeze jug shape), with an orange cap, retails for about $13/bottle.

Has worked great in my '28, and is not "gunky" like BAR'S Leak...

I had a simular situation when I first got into Model A's. I had a cracked block between the valve seat to the piston. It only leaked when the engine got warm. Drove me crazy for a week. Changed heads twice before I learned what to look for from an older Model A'er. Good luck.
