Default 1947 mercury rear brakes

i have mercury coupe and trying to adjust rear brakes and no matter which way i turn the adjustment bolts on rear of brakes tire spins tight and hard to spin in both sides of car tire spins tight or hard to spin any thoughts

mll; Remove the rear brake drum and carefully re-examine what's it looks like in there. Are all the springs and clips installed? Do the bottom adjusters "work" easily?Turn the adjusters you mentioned with the brake drum OFF and see what moves. Are your brake shoes the correct thickness? Are you following the correct brake adjusting procedure? If 47 Merc is the same as 40 Ford it should look like this:

'47 is NOT going to have the TWO adjusters on the BOTTOM. DD

The rear axle can be a bit more difficult to turn due to the differential action going on there. If the above procedure doesn't work, then something else is going on inside the drum. Worn shoes, worn drum, or return spring problems can hamper proper function and adjustments. Emergency brake could be stuck. An inspection would be warranted if they won't adjust.

thanks for all the input I just pulled rear grease seal out of hub and its a national seal 472653 is this correct rear seal? or what brand and model number seal is correct?
