Re: Odd Bent-spoke Wheels
I have had quite a few 40 spoke Kelseys and 4 with the studs on the back.I have had some 4.5" wide ones and all with the studs were 4.5" wide .4.5" wide ones are tough to find.I have never seen 5" wide except for the 15" adjustable spoke variety which was wider(5.5" wide).

Re: Odd Bent-spoke Wheels
Where are you measuring the 5"? They are measured between the inside of the outer part of the wheel. I have 1 4.5 and live in some rediculous hope of finding another for the rear of my car. My 4.5 also has the studs. All 4.5's Iv'e seen have the valve hole in a slight recess also. Can't make that out from your pic. Probably 4's and you are measuring overall width.

Re: Odd Bent-spoke Wheels
Not uncommon for wheels to be measured in the wrong spot. From the pictures, as Manager pointed out, they appear to be the Kelsey 4.5" which can be found at about a 20:1 ratio to the common 4" in these parts. For some reason, I always ask the price when seen at the swapmeet and find the 4" in average condition to regularly sell at $75 after the negotiation, and the 4.5" may go for the same to twice that amount depending on the seller's knowledge. In places where supplies wildly vary, prices are all over the place also. Demand for the 40 spoke Kelseys has reduced in recent years as the trend toward 17" and 18" Ford wheels responds to the availability of good tires. The 18" is my recent choice for open wheel use. Twenty years ago 18"s showed little demand. Having Fun: Fred A

Some Studebaker guys told me that they believe the 4.5" ones were made by Budd rather than KH.
