Default Need .874 reamer

I'm rebuilding my clutch and brake pedals and need a .874 reamer to use or rent or buy cheap ( this will be the only time I'll use it ). Thanks to all, Dennis/CT

I always felt that buying the right tools for the job was part of the joy of this hobby.

Dennis, Two points. One, Would .875 work? It's a mere .001 difference and a standard 7/8. And #2. Many old machine tools are showing up in flea markets and can be had for a song. Further more. I don't know how much you're reaming, b ut it shouldn't be more than 1/64 (.015) or a 55/64 drilled hole. An other solution is to take a 7/8 drill and "radius" the ends of the flutes at the cutting edge and ream with this. use lots of oil and run slowly. This usually gives a higher finish than a reamer. Just "Stone" the edge of the flutes with an "Arkansas" stone by hand until the point is gone and a nice radius has been made. Be sure to put some clearance on your new cutting edge or it will become your new burning edge. Good Luck!

Have you considered just using a brake hone. Most of these do not require much to be taken out. I have found a brake hone and a couple of minutes you are done. Rod

Guesse I had better mention with this method. If you drilled for a grease fitting, make sure to deburr the hole or you will brake the stones. Been there, done that. Rod

I'm with Rod. A brake hone is absolutely the best way to go for the small amount you are removing. Why buy an expensive reamer?

Have you pressed them in yet?
Rarely, but occassionally, bushings are an exact fit after they're installed.
Not sure if this was an engineered feature or a reproduction mistake with a happy ending ... but I seem to recall this occuring when I replaced mine
....or maybe it was the clutch fork bushings in the bellhousing?
Either way, check em first.

When I did mine this year they were a good fit without the need for fitting them.

I did the bushings in my steering box with Brattons stuff and everything fit perfect.
