Default How do I remove a '39 Deluxe trunk lock cylinder...

I need to remove and re-key my '39 Deluxe Fordor trunk lock. I purchased the car and it didn't come with keys for any lock...long story there...

In short, I don't have the key. How do I remove the lock assembly without damaging either the lock assembly or the trunk handle assembly?
I think there's a trick to it but I can't figure it out.

Once out, I think I should be able to get a key made if the code is still on the lock assembly or I can replace the lock (I have a NOS spare lock with keys).

Also, it would be helpful to know how to reinstall it.

Thanks

Hi Dan. The glove box lock is supposed to be keyed the same as the trunk and is easy to remove to get the key number. There is a small button that is just under the little hole by the cylinder on the trunk latch. Some have said they have gotten the button to release without a key to turn the cylinder 1/4 turn, but mine wouldn't. If that doesn't work, I just went through this with my '38 and ended up drilling out the spot welds on the rear housing. I'll attach a picture of my '38 handle to show the spot welds. I reattached by drilling/installing short self-tapping screws

Its an easy lock for a locksmith to get open and make a key if the glovebox doesnt work.
