Resizing rods
I’ve resized a set of 8ba rods for my new rebuild. Question is, I’ve got two rods that are within specs vertical, and at like 2and 8 and at 10 and 4 but .003 out at the parting line with the rod and cap. Is this gonna be a problem ?

Re: Resizing rods
No problem. Resized rods are commonly a bit above spec at the parting line and work fine. We resize rods every day (engine rebuilding shop) and this is normal.

Re: Resizing rods
I crush the rod sides before cutting the cap and honing when they are OS at the part. The bearing is only held in place by the press fit in that bore. Maybe those will be ok?

Re: Resizing rods
You can also suck in the parting line by angle grinding the parting line slightly. Putting a .002" feeler under one side when grinding the opposite side will pull the parting line in when the caps are torqued in place.

This was one of the first things that I learned, did. I don't think I would do it now, unless the rods were very worn. Karl |
