Have a few of the old reproductions we found after our move. They all are 'separating' at the ends. Will post a better close up when we locate them. They are here somewhere. All like new.

Tony lived in Southeastern Michigan and worked at the Mustang assembly plant in Gibralter. Back then he belonged to my region of MARC in Monroe. I don't recall his loss of the dies. He couldn't get "run time" where he was having them manufactured due to the small volume and their capacity was taken by the auto makers. After that I lost track of him.

The double curvature of the parts would complicate the pressing operation by a good bit. It would be interesting to see the original dies and know how many pressing operations it took to fabricate the two major pieces of that belt molding. Manufacturing processes generally have dedicated presses for each operation. They wouldn't have had to be really large presses but that depends on whether in was a one press hit or 4 or more different hits with different dies. Ford was manufacturing Special Coupes, Sport Coupes, and Business coupes in 1928 and 29 so they would have needed quite a few of them at that time. After the Special Coupe was discontinued in later 1929, the need for them would have dropped off a fair amount. Sport Coupes for 1930 & 31 have their own belt molding incorporated into the body form. Business Coupes lost out to the Standard Coupe models for those years so the belt molding was no longer produced except possibly for spare parts.

I was very lucky and found a good set on line for $200, 700 miles away. Worth the drive, but it was a real challenge to install. The outer beauty piece is thin and springy, and easy to dent or misshape. If you get one, snap it on gently and very carefully by hand. Do not even think of using any kind of hammer or mallet, no matter what it’s made of.
