Default Rare Early Ames Horn on ebay

Was looking at this ebay 28 headlight bar and horn assembly and noticed that the horn is one of the rarer early 28 Ames horn with the ribbed motor cover and the oval nameplate on the front bell - wonder what it will bring ? He lists it as new which it isn't and I'm guessing he doesn't know what he really has other than it being Model A !

My guess is he does not know or he would have advertised it in his listing.

How did you determine it was an early Ames ? I do not see a picture of the ribed cover and can not see the tag on the bell ?

Picture 7 shows the tag, pictures 11 and 12 show the ribbed cover as well as the last one.

This is one huge picture so I couldn't just copy the URL for the specific ones ...sorry.

Is that an early horn on a later bar with lights, or are the later lenses on an early bar with lights?

Thanks, you are correct, it is a Very Early Ames, however, it is most difficult to find a original Tag that is legible, and it appears the one on the horn is not too good. The headlights are 28 thru Feb. 29; correct original two wire conduits. The lens, no doubt, have been changed to later lens; fluted lens would be correct. The buckets and horn will take a lot of work as they appear to be rust pitted.

SOMEONE got to him! Seller ended the auction, my opening bid was canceled. Mark that seller on your WATCH LIST. Dirt bag.

Maybe he's going to list the horn as a separate item now that he knows.

Why is he a DIRT BAG ?? Under E-BAY rules, You the seller can stop an auction @ any time !! for a matter of reasons.. I myself within two hours of the listing offered him $300.00 JUST for the horn alone.. He just sent me an E-MAIL saying he was stopping the auction and was going to re-list it with the correct name of the horn.. Still it is his to do with what he wants !!..

I once saw an overdrive transmission on ebay with the rare bracket for the overdrive. I put in my bid. I did not go asking questions about it on a bulletin board that would be read by thousands of people or even two people looking for the same thing. Just place your bid, say your prayers and go to sleep and hope you have the winning bid email in the morning. Shipping from Wisconsin plus what I paid was less than the bracket alone was worth.

Agree 1000% Would you tell anyone where the stash of NOS A-400 ashtrays(that I do need) were or the NOS quarter for a '55 Ford Convertible(that I did need) that you could get for a song? Hell no, keep it to yourself. Buy low & sell high, or keep it for your project.

To be honest, I have no interest in the auction but figured since there was debate about whether it was an early horn or not, I posted the pictures. I didn't even know about this type of horn until this post so I figured it would be good to educate others out there.

Besides the Very Early Ames thats on my Light Delivery, I have a spare thats all restored, including bell Tag.
I guess I should list it on EBay ?

What do you think a very early, Hump Back, EA would go for?

Consider the 10%+ you have to pay ebay. Try Fordbarn first!
