The 2014 event dates are as follows;

Friday, October 24th is the Cigar City Flatheads White Knuckle Tour, Saturday and Sunday the 25th & 26th is the Moonshine Festival.

As the date gets closer, we will be posting additional information.

You can Google the 2014 Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, GA for event specific info like suggested lodgings, etc.

Hope to see you there.

Google is your friend. They have a full page on the internet about the 2014 show. October 25 & 26th are the dates for 2014. Great show. We have always enjoyed this one.

That's excellent Gene. We may call on you to map out a good tour area around Dawsonville, if you don't mind giving a hand. PM me and let me know if it's ok with you. Thanks. Vic

Ok, things are heating up already as far as the White Knuckle Tour goes. Gene aka GREEN50 has offered to map out a drive through the North Georgia Mountains with some very cool stops along the way, we'll once again "do lunch" in Dahlonega, possibly at the Bourbon Street Café... We'll keep the other locations a secret, to add to the fun. Thanks to Gene for offering to help. Vic

Yup, they do look alike. I sure people back in the day would say "they all look alike"... Just like they do today... No one takes into account that styles usually go with what sells and is popular at that time. Your Studebaker is a real beauty!

Gene, it's only a 20 minute ride up the GA 400, to Dawsonville, from the hotel... Not too far. From a selfish standpoint, it cuts a good amount of time off our return trip to Florida. Lookin' forward to seeing you guys.

Hey Vic, it looks like I would need to convince the boss to allow me to take three days vacation to attend this tour and show. Travel day on Thursday to get there for tour on Friday. Then another travel day to get home on Monday.

Hey John, you are absolutely correct however, it has been my experience that it is much easier to take a "long weekend" than to take the entire work week off, to attend a non-work related event. Remember, you can't please everyone all the time but, those of us that are still working have to make choices and, when you look at most automotive related events, they do take place over a weekend, most likely to accommodate those that work but would like to attend, and to insure maximum attendance...

That's the primary reason we schedule the Florida "Barner's Bash" over a three day weekend and, as you can attest, the event has grown in attendance every year so, we must be doing something right...

Thanks for having the show over the weekend. This help car owners that has small family and still working to enjoy the show. I always enjoy the show. There was a lot different cars. Also a lot people from young to old that is in to early Fords. This show is growing. I wish I could be there this year. Last year I had a blast. Time has got really tight hope to make it back. If you are into Flatheads and Early Ford this is one that you need to put on your list to go to. You will not be sorry. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Hi Willie, too bad you can't make it this year. The Moonshine Festival has always been held over a three day weekend. We, the Cigar City Flatheads, have been holding our Tours independently. We are not affiliated with the Moonshine Festival or the Care for Kids organization so we can't, and don't, take credit for staging the event, just our Friday Tours. The Moonshine Festival is a feast for Flathead Ford Fanatics and, with the Fall foliage in full color, the North Georgia Mountains provide beautiful scenery beyond the Fabulous Flatheads on display and cruisin' the countryside.

The Cigar City Flatheads Friday Tour (this year the White Knuckle Tour) is free to anyone that would like to attend, as are all of our events, like the Florida "Barner's Bash" and the recent "Vanquish Vapor Lock Tour". No club membership is required. There is no judging of vehicles at our events and, historically, we've only given one award each year, the "Miss Shelly Award" which was created by Bill Wzorek. Additionally, Bill crafted each "trophy", and they are truly one of a kind works of art. Attending a Cigar City Flatheads event won't net you a trophy for your vehicle but, we guarantee you'll meet a lot of likeminded people who want to have Fun with Flathead Fords.

Hi Jack, the Friday Tour put on by us (the Cigar City Flatheads) is not affiliated with the Moonshine Festival. The White Knuckle Tour will be held on Friday, October 24th. We are working on the details and will post them here on the forum as the event dates get closer. Looking forward to seeing you in Dawsonville. Vic

The people that run the Moonshine show does a great job. Next year we will come on Friday do the White Knuckle Tour sound like fun. My son loves to go on tour. We have done a lot of Model T tour over year. Fun for the whole family.

I use to play baseball when was younger man. They would give us all trophy. Over time the trophy ended up in the trash. The thing I got out of baseball was fun and enjoyment the game. As long I am having a good time and spending time w/ my family. I don't need your Trophy or your cookie jars. I wish more car shows would be like that.

Willie, we can guarantee you won't win a trophy (nobody will) on one of the Cigar City Flatheads Tours. However, we will guarantee that you'll have FUN!

Here's a little tidbit, for any of you that might be interested. We just opened a FaceBook page for the Cigar City Flatheads. We'll be posting information on all of our events, etc. over there, as well as here on the FordBarn. We'd appreciate it if you'd "like us on FaceBook".

Bill, if you book something now or soon, you should be able to get something close to Dawsonville at a reasonable cost. In the past I booked a room about 4-5 miles outside of Dawsonville. Last year we booked a place in Dahlonega which was about 10-15 miles from Dawsonville. Don't recall the actual price but it was not what I would call pricey.

Bill, I posted this info earlier. This hotel is south of Dawsonville on the GA 400 highway (about a 20 minute ride to Dawsonville).

"Ok, I just booked a room for the Moonshine Festival. If you are interested in staying where the Cigar City Flatheads will be, check out the link below and reserve your room."

Looking forward to seeing you at the Shine Festival, Vic

We stay in Dahlonega every year. As John said, it is a short drive over good roads to Dawsonville. Dahlonega is a nice town with a quaint downtown area and has several restaurants as opposed to fast food joints. The Days Inn there has always been clean with a small breakfast offering. The price has been in the $80-$90 range.

If you are interested in staying where the Cigar City Flatheads will be, check out the link below and reserve your room. This particular Hilton is in Alpharetta, Georgia, it is about 20 minutes south of Dawsonville, on the Georgia 400 Highway. If you copy and paste the link into your browser, you should be able to pull up the info. there are hotels closer to Dawsonville, we stay in Alpharetta as a convenience, it may be more convenient for you to stay closer to Dawsonville, depending on where you are located in south Carolina. Looking forward to seeing you in Dawsonville. Vic

Just looked up Dawsonville on the map, Good Lord, Dawsonville is on the other side of nowhere from here. I better not bring my "35 police cruiser" that far just to chase make believe moonshiners. Have fun.

Her feet looks dirty but I could get past that.Is that Marilyn? Good Grief if that is what goes on at The Moonshine Festival I could be Keith's Barney. Sure looks like more fun than the Millersport sweet corn festival at least the legs up part.

Coupe, It's difficult to remember exactly what all does go on there with so much free moon shine available.

If it's a Hilton, its got to be a good hotel. At this time, you might still find something closer to Dawsonville.

With the Moonshine Festival just a little more than two months away, here's a request. I'd appreciate it, if those of you who are planning to attend the festival and participate on the White Knuckle Tour, would post your intentions here and/or PM me, to let me know. We are trying to get an idea of the number of people (and vehicles) that will be going on the White Knuckle Tour. Thanks, see you in Dawsonville in October.

Hi Vic. My wife and I are planning on making the festival AND your tour
"if the good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise". We have reservations in Dahlonega.

Thanks for spearheading the tour.

Randy, my plan (and we all know how those go) is to drive the '51 F-1 up this year. How about you ridding along with us, on the White Knuckle Tour on Friday the 24th?

COOL Tony, glad you'll make the Tour this time. GREEN50 is mapping out the route (he's local to the area) so we should have a blast. See you in October.

We're all just kids at heart, and all are welcome. the Moonshine Festival is a family oriented event, there actually is no celebration of Moonshine...

I'm signed up for a room at the Hilton in Alpharetta.
Now if the car stays together, I'll be there.

Is there a swap meet at this Moonshine festival. I need some flathead parts, starting with a good block.

Yes there is, it's at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Museum located at 415 Highway 53 East Dawsonville, GA. There is also a car show there along with the swap meet. Dennis Carpenter has a Booth there too.

Chuck, This years Tour is being mapped out by Green50 aka Gene. We will all meet at an as yet undisclosed location and either have breakfast there or drive to a restaurant before we start the Tour. It's still a bit early to get into the exact details so, keep checking here. Are you ridding' shotgun with Bill or driving one of your Flatheads?

Gene, can you PM me you cell phone# so we can exchange phone numbers, we'll be getting into Alpharetta in late afternoon on Thursday, the 23rd. We'll have to schedule a meeting time and place for Friday morning to embark on the White Knuckle Tour. A lot of Barner's will be staying in different locations around Dawsonville so I'll have to post an itinerary here so everyone will know the drill.

Bill, I don't know. I guess she'll have to live vicariously, through photos and other accounts of the fun, as posted here on the FordBarn. Rest assured that she is not alone, as many "Barner's" will have to join her, to experience the events through the various reports that will be posted, after the fact.

One thing I can tell you, with absolute certainty, is; in all the years that we (the Cigar City Flatheads) have attended the Moonshine Festival, we've had nothing but FUN!

Bill, at this point I would "questamate"... that there will be anywhere from five to fifty participants on the White Knuckle Tour. I'm not trying to be intentionally nebulous, the truth is, I don't know and I most likely won't know, until after the actual tour is underway. We'll take a head count on Friday morning before we embark on the tour. Several of the Cigar City Flatheads (that normally drive the Tours in a Flathead). will be driving a modern vehicle or riddin' Shotgun in a Flathead this time.

Bill, it's too bad Chuck L. won't be able to make the Tour this year. I'm sure he'd like to try driving something with a little less 'slop' in the steering. Suffice it to say, (my '39 CS) took Chuck by surprise on last years 'Don't Follow Me, I'm Lost Tour'. Thanks to Mac Van Pelt, I've got all NOS parts to rebuild the steering box.

I'm sure you'll have a number of takers on your offer, real license or not...

There's just one month to go so, if you are planning to attend the White Knuckle Tour and the Moonshine Festival with the Cigar City Flatheads, we hope you've made your hotel reservations and, if you would like one of the "custom" key fobs that Gene aka GREEN50 is making, you'll need to PM Gene to get your order in. Remember, the key fobs are only $3.00 each, and you can pay for yours at the White Knuckle Tour. I'll post a photo of one again, if you missed it the first time...

Bill, it would be cool if everyone attending would get Vic's name and his credit card number stamped on their key fob. That way everything is free once you pick up your fob from Gene. Food, gas, hotel and of course all the Moonshine you can drink.

The White Knuckle Tour and Moonshine Festival are just a month away (time flies when you are havin' fun ). This year we are going to expand the coverage of the event. We'll be posting photos, etc. here on the FordBarn, as we've always done. And, as an added feature, for our extended Cigar City Flatheads family, we will also post on the Cigar City Flatheads page on FaceBook.

As always, we are looking forward to seeing all our FordBarn friends in Dawsonville, Georgia from October 24th to 26th.

I got a phone call last night from Gene aka Green50. Gene gave me an up-date on the White Knuckle Tour that he is setting up for us. He had a computer melt down so he's not able to post here just yet. But, I'll give you a hint about what he has planed. As always, the Tour will take in some beautiful Fall scenery in the North Georgia Mountains and there will be BBQ and a Winery involved... Gene will provide more details once he gets his computer back.

We will meet at the Bojangles next to Thunder Road in Dawsonville, at 8:00 am on Friday, the 24th, and depart on the Tour at 8:30.

Vic I am sorry I cannot make it this year. I got to much work to do. Winter coming and That means work here getting ready. Putting the snow plow on the tractor. Making sure the heat tapes in the mobile park are working. No one to help me this year. I also been working on the 39 Studebaker installing a overdrive. Its about done. I am not as fast as I use to be. Tomorrow the last time to mow all the yards I hope this year. Have not had the 40 out this year. I just can't keep up any more.

Hang in there Ken, there's always room for you and Barb to join us any time. Maybe you can come down for the 2015 Florida "Barner's Bash", but if you do, drive the Studebaker.

Here’s the route info for the White Knuckle Tour. As Vic Piano posted we will be meeting 8:00 am Friday 10/24/14 at the Bojangles at 25 Main St in Dawsonville in front of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Museum.

The tour will be approximately 43 miles one way and end up in Blairsville, Georgia at Jims Smokin Que. Jims is rated 6th in the country for the best BBQ. You can check Jims website for the menu, everything is delicious! Here’s the link to the map and the route.
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/25+Main+St,+Dawsonville,+GA+30534/jim's+smokin+que/@34.6646414,-84.0051895,10z/am=t/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x885f7cd9f5826ef5:0x4cb dfc89fa636580!2m2!1d-84.1129974!2d34.4169474!1m5!1m1!1s0x885f3dd5fbfc42 7b:0xbc6bb2691bab75ca!2m2!1d-83.903976!2d34.821886!3e0

On the return trip we will be stopping the at Frogtown Cellars Winery in Dahlonega, Georgia. Here’s the map of the route. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/jim%...37!2m1!6e4!3e0

The scenery in the North Georgia Mountains is beautiful this time of year. See you at the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville.

John is correct Helent, not all of the women are old but the 'old' ones are in the majority. As for passengers for the White Knuckle Tour, there will be a number to choose from, as not everyone is driving a Flathead or other vintage vehicle, so shotgun and backseat riders should be plentiful...

Tom, too bad you can't make it to the Shine Fest, hopefully you'll be able to get down here for the 2015 Florida "Barner's Bash". I agree, being a grandfather is a blast. I just wish he lived closer so I could spend more time with him, and you are right, his are the best pictures of all. Hope to see you soon. Vic

The count down continues, just eight days to go before we head north to Dawsonville, Georgia for the White Knuckle Tour and the Moonshine Festival. The Tampa contingent of the Cigar City Flatheads will meet at 8:00 am on Thursday, October 23rd at the Mac Donald's on SR 50, just east of I-75. We will depart at 8:30 am. Looking forward to hookin' up with the convoy.

I would appreciate it if everyone (that will be arriving on Thursday) would PM me and provide a contact (cell phone number). I'll PM you back with my phone # so we have a way to communicate. Thanks. Vic

Gene, judging from the age of the photo, those headlights might be parking lights now... LOL

Request Reprint

The count down continues, just 2 days to go before we head north to Dawsonville, Georgia for the White Knuckle Tour and the Moonshine Festival.

Thanks. Vic

VIC, et al: Have the Truckstang ready to rock and roll! New rubber, which MIGHT get exercised a bit, just to prove to 40Cpe that yes, it does "run"........seems everyone wants to hear that blower.........GRIN!! We hope to convoy with 40Cpe on Thursday, arriving that afternoon - reservations made for same hotel in Alpharetta - Margretha is bringing her camera gear, ostensibly to capture the flora and fauna, more probably to capture YOUR shenanigans for posterity (and Ms. Sherry's future use in court).........
HUGE GRIN!!

Sorry I can't make it this year. Have not had the 40 out since then. Been trying to put a overdrive tranny in the Studebaker. Lots of trouble. The tranny is no good. Hangs up in low and reverse very bad. . Lots of work installing it and now no good. So I will be busy playing with that.

We're back home as of 3 pm central today. The crowd was shoulder-to-shoulder. We wanted to leave the show early afternoon on Saturday and could not get out. Every lane was blocked. Luckily, my son drove the wife up in her car so we left the '40 and came back about dark and got it. The infrastructure in the area just can't handle the crowds. As we drove towards GA 400 the traffic was backed up for miles. I'll bet the local non-car folks hate to see this come every year. The good part is there were more cars than you could look at and the weather was perfect.

I'm was sorry to hear Ms Margretha needs more surgery. We missed them and pray for God's guidance for the surgeon and a quick recovery.

The Friday cruise was excellent. Thanks to Vic for promoting it all year ( sorry Lawson) and to Gene and Sarah for the planning. We had a great time and enjoyed meeting people and putting faces with the avatars. There were even some White Knuckles on the curves in the mountains.

Made it Sat for a few hours for my first time. Me thinks the festival plus the car show are too much of a good thing for the size of the town. Met a few folks but would be nice if Barn members would put their ID on the windshields entry.
Definitely a unique show that should be on everyone todo list

Vic, had a great time, hope you retrieved your truck OK. Mike and I came up with some GREAT ideas for the 2015 BARNERS BASH in the spring. Thanks for breaking down and keeping with tradition, now I can relate when the guys talk about ALL the other times. spending time with the Cigar City Flatheads was great, couldn't have found a better group of guys to hang with.

Keith, thanks for all the New York based left handed compliments... All kiddin' aside, I had a super time with you, your dad and all the other Cigar City Flatheads. Cliff and I went up to Garlits Museum this morning and got the '51...

I'm looking forward to hearing what ideas you and Mike came up with for the 2015 Florida "Barner's Bash". Talk to you later.

Another Moonshine Festival has come and gone, the good thing is that the memories remain. This year Gene (Green 50) set up the White Knuckle Tour for us and, it was the best attended tour that we’ve had yet. The rout was picturesque and the... destination was delicious… I think we had a total of nine Flatheads on the tour and something like thirty people. As usual, I was busy socializing and I didn’t ever get an actual count of the number of participants.

I’ll digress, and let you know how our ride up to Dawsonville went. This year I drove my ’51 F-1 and got as far as “Big Daddy” Don Garlits Museum in Ocala, Florida. Mike was riding with me and I just happened to glance at the oil pressure gauge and noticed that the pressure had dropped a bit. We pulled off of the highway and into a gas station. Upon inspection, we noticed that the PCV valve was letting oil exit… We also noticed that the fan and generator were slightly off center, letting the fan blades just touch the shroud at the bottom. We plugged the port on the PCV (there were two and the rubber cap on the second one had come off) and I reached under the generator to lift it so Mike could snug the bolt. Mike gave the bolt one good turn and it sheered off… Never, in all my years of messin’ with Flatheads, have I ever seen one of those bolts snap. Worse, it was a clean snap, flush with the intake manifold. We disconnected the generator and fan and drove the F-1 to Garlits Museum and asked if we could leave it there for the weekend. They were kind enough to accommodate us, so we continued on in the modern cars that the others in the group were driving. I called Kiwi Tony and asked if he had a bolt that he could bring to the Moonshine Festival. He said he did and he would bring it. We pulled into the hotel parking lot, at just about 5:00 pm, and saw both Bill’s ’47 and Chuck’s ’49. We all got together and went out to eat.

Friday morning we left the hotel at 7:00 am and drove up to Dawsonville to meet everyone at Thunder Road for the White Knuckle Tour. Kiwi Tony has a friend, “Rabbit” who has a beautiful ’40 TuDor Sedan. Rabbit told me he had an 8BA intake manifold that I could have. He called his son and asked him to bead blast and paint the intake… Saturday morning, he gave me the freshly painted (black, the color of the Flathead in my F-1) along with a full set of gaskets. I can’t thank Rabbit or Tony enough for helping me out. As an added bonus, for me, I hooked up with a friend from my Army daze, who I had not seen in 44 years.

Getting back to the White Knuckle Tour, we drove up to Blood Mountain and on to the BBQ. I’ll let the photos do the talking from here.

The Saturday Moonshine Festival was a blast as always and was attended by a bunch of FordBarner’s. Again, I’ll let the photos do the talking…

Sunday morning came around too fast, as it always does, and the Florida contingent of the Cigar City Flatheads headed home. We missed getting a chance to see Bill and Chuck Sunday morning, as they took off earlier. We reached Don Garlits Museum around 3:00 pm and asked if we could come back Monday and get the ’51. Yesterday, Cliff and I drove up with my F-150 and his trailer and picked up the ’51. I’ll pull the intake, etc. and replace it with the one from “Rabbit”. All and all, it was another outstanding event and, I have to admit, I enjoyed the opportunity to ride in a bunch of very cool Flatheads on the Tour, etc. Thanks to Gene and his wife for all their help setting up the tour, to Tony and “Rabbit” for parts, and to all the guys and gals who attended the events. I’m already looking forward to next year.

Back home safe & sound, Bill and I traveled over 2000 miles and NO major problems, you have to respect those old flatheads. I have never seen so many 39-40 fords as were near the courthouse in Dawsonville. For awhile you forget that there are other car besides fords. Thanks to everyone for a great time, the memories will last a life time, Chuck S.

Got home about 5 p m yesterday & as you can see by the post time I slept in a bit.
( something I never do )
Round trip 2525 Miles / 175 gal of gas / 1 Qt oil ~ Down side is ~ before I got to Chucks to start the run to the fest sheba decided she only needed 1 thermostat
so the left one either stuck open or if it is in the line it may have turned side ways.
Then on the WHITE KNUCKEL TOUR some B M W tried to take Me Vic & His friend O B
out by passing us on the in side of one of the switch backs where there was no in side.
{ lets think about that for a moment / 1947 tudor Ford vs Beemer NO guardrail nothing but down on his out side Glad he had 2nd thoughts it would not have been as pretty as the views we were seeing }
Now Sunday when Chuck & I were leaving for the return trip home we left the hotel parking lot at 6:30 a.m.
Before we got to the main st my right Laker pipe front bracket broke and the pipe started to drag. we stopped and removed the rear bracket and put the pipe in the car. < glad it did not happen on the inter state at those speeds I for sure would have run it over not telling what could have happen from there >
Then the only thing that happen is I was following Chuck up a long hill in Pa. I thought boy we are making great time I looked at the speed O & said to myself no wonder we are going 100 MPH ~~ that can't be correct ~~ then she let out one heck of a squeal
And started to work correct then the rest of the way home it would be ok then start to squeal and jump around. but never broke sounds like it needs a little lube.
All in All I had a great great time.

As I said, Vic, our son gets the credit for the pics. He took our car up to Blue Ridge for a ride on the scenic train on Friday while we did the tour.

Bill, Marilyn and I are glad you and Chuck arrived safe & sound. After spending a few extra days in the mountains, we too returned home safely. We had a great time with everyone but gosh it seemed like the time we all had together just flew right by! We are already looking forward to next year's event. Steve

some more pic's of the fest. Somehow I only used 100 gal + or- of gas, one qt of oil, and points and condenser, not bad for 2000 miles. I Checked the plugs when I got home , they were pure white she needs more gas. Main metering jets are on the menu today. The only way to find out some of these things are to drive 'em.

Jack, glad you had a good time, sorry we missed you as well . We always have fun at the Moonshine Festival and this year was no exception. The White Knuckle Tour that Gene (Green 50) set up was excellent. Hopefully we can hook up at next years Festival, or you could head south again and come to the 2015 Florida "Barner's Bash"... I'll be posting info on the "Bash" as things come together. We usually hold the "Bash" in late February or early March. Hope to see you there.
