Default New manifold heater

Has any one used the manifold heater sold by the parts houses on a waffle manifold? If so how well did it work?

They work fine. They're aluminum, so they don't have the heat retention of the originals but they do force the heat into the cab.

I don't have any experience with the new aluminum ones. I got an old cast piece from Berts for less than the cost of the new one. I like the old patina on it!

They are easily installed and removed for summer. It won't help overheating at all, in fact it might make it worse.

We have one on the phaeton. It has worked well for years. I took it off once to put a downdraft carb on the car and my wife complained so it is back on. Summer time it is easy to remove the funnel part so you don't have the heat blowing into the car, which is nice.

no disrespect but i may have to disagree with greg about the lower temp. anything that takes heat away shouldnt hurt, how would it make it worse? as i said no disrespect, just asking

Generally speaking each "waffle" manifold uses its own unique cover in most cases I have seen and they do not interchange. Some heaters have removalable covers and some are one piece like Otwell Health heater and others.

I would guess that there are atleast 10 different manufacturers. Ford even made one!

Note: Each type requires a different size and location for the hole in the firewall!

There is an aluminum cover that is sold new, that fits a stock manifold only i.e. one with no waffle. Not sure how well they work without the "waffle" heat exchanger though.

If you post some detailed pictures maybe someone may be able to tell which manifold you have.

Bert's usually has a selection of old original covers and heaters ... some covers are aluminum ... some cast iron.

It may help with overheating of the water but it does move that big heat sink of a manifold up towards the dist. With all the heat more towards the dist, it will cook condensors more easliy and make the dist real 'toasty'.

The waffle manifold not only heats up the distributor and the condensor, it makes it very tricky to change a condensor on the side of the road. Been there down that.

I had a one piece 'Director Special' and it will roast you winter and summer as there is no real way to turn off the heat. I took it off as it does not get that cold where I live and I don't want to fry any more condensers than I have to
