DavidJ,

Thanks for expressing my exact same thoughts.

Hardly a week goes by without my being asked for my opinion of the value of a part or a whole car. I gladly give an opinion if I have some basis for it with all the appropriate caveats, but I don't tie a string to it by asking if I can buy it at that price.

It's his part and he can do whatever he wants with it. I'm sure there are people on this site that had a part and didn't know what it fit. When they got an answer they took it to the next swap meet and sold it. The only mistake that Lincoln made was saying he was going to put it on E-bay. He incurred the wrath of the "little old ladies" on this site who thought they should have first bid on a $1000 gold necklace and buy it for $50.

Hey TJ, does resorting to calling members here names, make you feel like a man ???
Kinda babyish, if ya ask me.

Hey Old Bill, that cam bidding war we got going on the old Fordbarn was a real hoot. We both had fun on that one. It was all for a good cause as well, getting our sweet mom Miss Shelly some money to help pay the cost of keeping the Barn bills paid. We had all those other bidders thinking that cam was made of solid gold and worth a fortune. Truth being neither one of us really wanted that cam in the first place. We just got the price way up and backed out at the last minute.
Now some of these guys are getting way too wound up, highly emotional, and beginning to act like kids calling each other names.
What say you and I just back ourselves on out of here and go over to eBay.com and get the bidding war going on that winterfront grille. Let these guys duke it out on their own. LOLOL!!

Lanny, I'm known to shoot from the lip. I'm also known to be a reasonable man.
I reconsidered, and I changed my mind. I'm sorry you don't understand that.

I thought this forum was about helping each other with the mechanical and restoration aspects of old Fords not condeming someone for asking a question. Maybe I misunderstood ???. When a question is asked and replied to everyone benefits. With out questions non of us would learn. Enough soap box.

How many of you complainers have a car you would put this on if you would buy it for $100? You know you would want to resell it at a nice profit or hang it on the wall to make others envious. So if you really want it, go bid on Ebay at market value.

It maybe "tongue in cheek" but to even suggest that we sabotage a fellow fordbarners legit auction on ebay is not right guys!Someone might take the suggestion serious.

In response to David's quote (not the original poster's thread)--
An old salt on the AACA Forums offered up this gem to a problem just like David's:

"Don't try to teach the seller nothin'."

Tony, that's true, but we do tend to show off our own expertise to the lowly sellers, don't we? I just can't walk away letting the guy think he's got this if in fact he's got that. In truth also, a Swap Meet is more a social event than a shopping trip, so why go there with an attitude?

Sorry for sticking my nose in, but I think someone here said it "may be" a Pines winterfront grille, now in the auction, it says experts have said it IS a Pines winterfront grille.

Not quite the same I would say.

Alan,

I'm not sure I can be like the old guy on AACA; I want to help a guy out if I can. But the tale David tells is unfortunate.

Hey, it happens. I've started out offering a fair price with an education and just like David, been told "I think I better wait". After it happens to you once, you buy it first, then you educate them.

This fellow has a right to ask questions on Fordbarn and then sell something on E-Bay.
Some very rare items should be sold by auction. That is, the only way, to find the real price.
It is a bad feeling to sell something to someone and then see them sell it for a big profit. I have had that happen, as have several others. On the other hand, anything that I sell, I hope it to be for more than I bought it. It's all part of the hobby.

I just checked the auction on this winterfront grille and it is now at $499.00 with 7 days to go. I hope the seller gets a good price and the winner is happy with the grille front he gets. I think many of the posters that seemed to be complaining where actually just kidding around. There is no way I would even think about sabotaging someone's auction. I do believe that many of the posters got too wound up, overly emotional, and even resorted to name calling. This is the last post I will make on this. Good luck to the seller and the winner of this nice accessory winter grille. NEXT......

lincoln could bite himself in the ass. some ford barners might give him more than its worth and e pay does not guarantee you will get market value at all. -- barry
