Timing Problem
Following the instructions for timing written by Marco on his web site a problem has arisen. According to the instructions and I quote:
"With everything assembled check the travel of the spark advance relative to the opening in the side of the distributor body. The protruding lever should be against one wall of the opening with the lever down and against the other wall with the lever up. Adjust or bend the linkages as required." When the spark advance lever is raised to the retard position it bangs against the body of the distributor but leaves quite the gap when lowered to the full advance position. I'm aware of the steering column can be rotated to adjust this difference but if that does not correct the problem what can I do other then bending (which I'm not a fan of) the linkage? Am I correct in saying filing the slot of the distributor body is not an option? Are there different sizes of the control rod that goes to the distributor from the steering column? Thanks for any advise. |

Re: Timing Problem
Try the column before you worry about what happens if that does not work (it will work).

Re: Timing Problem
I agree with twisting the column to get the correct base timing.
I don't worry about the amount of advance, I don't think these monsters need 40º. |

Re: Timing Problem
I had the same problem and if I remember I turned my column a bit counter clockwise.
