Default Marvel Mystery Oil alternatives

Hey guys,

Just looking for a little direction on some alternatives for MMO. I'm working on getting the ol' flatty going and looking for something as well rounded as MMO. Everyone recommends it highly but being Canadian, its impossible to find up here.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
S

You could try sewing machine oil, that was the origin of MMO as I understand it.

I've had very good results with Kroil but don't sell Liquid Wrench short. It's a good product too.

Why don't you order via the Internet? Amazon carries it.

No no no. Marvel mystery oil is an additive, for gas or oil. I use it as atop end lubricate in the gas. Try sea foam, if that's available.

Sea Foam and Marvel Mystery Oil should be available at 'Canadian Tire' in Canada. If not ask at the counter & they should be able to get either.

Why change? This product has been sold for decades and has has a fantastic reliability. Are you looking for a product that does what?

A clarification... Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) is not a penetrating oil like Liquid Wench/PB Blaster, etc.. It is a lubricant, generally used as an upper cylinder lubricant when added to fuels, it is also excellent when used to free up stuck engines and/or sticky valves..
I recently purchased a vehicle that had not been ran since 1968. The car had been involved in a minor shed fire.. I pulled the plugs, pored MMO down the carb, then pulled the plugs and filled the cylinders.. I let the engine sit for three months, pulled the plugs, cranked the engine over to purge the cylinders. Disconnected the fuel line from the tank, hooked up a temp line to a can of fuel, pored some fuel down the carb. The engine started right up, within a few minutes it settled down, running very smoothly. After several days of running the engine it appears that I have a good engine..
I just used the same procedure on a '65 Corvair that had not been ran since '93... Same results..
Good thing I saved some MMO to put on my cereal this morning...

I have a small collection of top end oilers. One of them, I don't remember which, said to use that company's product, or 10w oil. Not pictured is my Rislone Oiler.

I think us fans of MMO and Rislone are giving away our age.
(Goes good on salads, too.)

If you can not find Marvel Mystery Oil use automatic transmission fluid. I used it for years on engines that had sat a long time, to oil the cylinders and top end. It worked well. When the engine started i would run it at a fast idle and dribble about a half pint through the engine and it was good to go.

Lots of good stuff out there. Read the labels.
If you are into brewing your own, here is a proven formula.
8 ounces of #2 diesel (common road diesel)
1 ounce of white lead.
2 ounces of Ccl4 (carbon tetrachloride)

This is the basic formula of one of the best known oil additives on the market.
