Default Testing electric pumps with other than gas

Can I use water? or what do you suggest.

I've several older electric ones, all power on and run, but would like to test them without having my head over a bottle of fuel

Thanks

Think kerosene would work better than water. Running water through a fuel pump doesn't seem like a good idea and kerosene is relatively safe compared to gasoline.

Agreed... kerosene, paint thinner, diesel fuel. I don't like water because I once ruined a pump with water. Residual water was left in there, to do its bad stuff - I wasn't careful enough to get all the moisture out.
BTW, when I've been running elect fuel pumps, I use fairly long pieces of fuel hose, both on inlet and outlet, and a can of fuel (one or two gal) with a small fill (or vent) neck, and run both the inlet and outlet hoses into the fuel can, and place the fuel can at least five-six feet from where I am with the pump. I'm just cycling the same fuel out of the can, and back into the can, with me being several feet away. So far, I'm still here to tell about it.

Bench testing a electrical fuel pump with no resistance in and out will not give you any reliability on the pump. It only shows that the CAN PUMP. Pressure gauge on the outlet and a vacuum gauge on the inlet and (tee fittings) and some way of causing a restriction give you a better clue.
