Default Driving me crazy

Hey Guys,
Ref. my old thread about clicking noise in or around my valve train. Thank's to ya-all, I've tried to eleminate all the variables regarding valve clearance. I have a B block so I can check the clearance with the side cover off. No's 2 and 3 valves down to .006 clearance..still clicking as before. Checked stems and guides (smooth and free) and spring (OK). The only thing I changed between when I test ran engine (no noise) was the exaust manifold (from an A to B to match B carb). I have cheapo gaskets on it. Runs great with lots of power and plugs are all grey. Took it out for about a 15 mile ride and ran great. Could I have a leak that would click?? If so, I'll swap out manifolds to check.
A little HELP here!

Thanks,
Pete

Ed,
Haven't found any blowby around the gaskets so I sorta counted out exaust which is new. How about a metallic clicking noise from the intake? Haven't tried the WD-40 trick yet. A wooden dowel doesn't tell me a thing either. Checked valves with engine running so clearances don't seem a problem there.

Peter J You say you changed EX man.to match B carb.I assume you meant that U changed the IN man to match the B carb.In that case, with the mismatched manifolds they may not be on the same plane. The manifolds should be resurfaced as a pair & use good metal-clad gaskets.

If you have a Harbor Freight near you, I have found their $4 mechanic's stethoscope handy for this sort of thing.

I already dug out my A intake manifold that I was on it originally. I going to swap out the questionable B manifold, replace the gaskets and probably put my A carb. (which is new) back on just to eleminate those posibilities.
Thanks for all the moral support and I'll let you know.
