Default Please recommend a good 12 volt coil

I have converted to 12 volts and have added an external mounted ballast resistor to my existing coil and it seems to be operating fine.

However, for a "spare" coil, I am considering purchasing a spare 12 volt coil.

Could you please recommend a 12 volt coil that I could use?

Thank you!

Autozone- LU800 is an internal resistor coil for points ignition
Advanced can cross if you can find a nimrod smart enough!

II use the Pertronix epoxy filled 3.0 ohm flame thrower coil on my roadster. This is an internaly resisted coil for 12 volt applications. The coil is where the spark comes from and this coil will give electronic or BETTER performance with the original points distributor. The last one that I bought cost around forty dollars. Some of the things that I like about this coil is you get instant starts, the plugs run clean and you can feel the performance boost in the seat of your pants. Another advantage is you get the hot spark of electronic without the module that can and often will give trouble. Here is a picture showing the coil mounted, while I was building up the roadster..

Pat, I got my flame thrower coil from Eastwood 800-345-1178 part number 40611 epoxy (3.0 ohm) They listed two other oil filled flame thrower coils , that was a few bucks cheaper but the guys on the Eastwood forum advised that I use the epoxy filled version because it would stand more viberation and it could be mounted with the tower (wire connection end) at the bottom as the original model A coil was mounted. The oil filled coils must be mounted with the tower pointing up so that the oil will cover the windings for cooling. You can contact Pertronix at www.pertronix.com or phone 909-599-5955 unless the numbers have changed.

If you are interested in souping up the original distributor for hotter spark, I recommend the new points cam from Bill Stipe. This points cam gives an additional 10 degrees of dwell, for even hotter spark. part number SMC 0033 The last that I heard this part sold for $12.75 phone 920-467-2895. More dwell gives the coil more build up times between fireings. I feel that every little bit counts!!!!
