There are 2 flat headed bolts, one on each end of the spring that hold the spring in place check the bolts and the spring to make sure that nothing is broken. Take a set of battery jumper cables and see if the starter will run, put 2 nuts on the threaded stud and the black cable on the nuts and touch the red (pos) cable to the body of the starter and it should run. Hold the starter tight as it will torque or try to turn as it starts to turn. Look in the pan hole where the starter bolts on with a flash light to see if the teeth are damaged. I doubt all the teeth are gone, it would have turned the engine some until it got to the missing teeth. G.M.

Mike here's the best place to send starters, generators or alternators. You won't believe how inexpensive it will be. They have been there for years and have all the parts needed. You can get the spring, lock washers and bolts and easily replace them, the two bolts are not the same, one is longer and go's down into the shaft. Chestnut Hill Auto Electric Denver, Pa. 1-717-445-4616 G.M. By the way I was born in Arlington.
