Wiper Motor

Is anyone familiar with this 6v wiper motor? It was on my A when I bought it. I cannot seem to find a blade for it. Looks like a hook arrangement on the wiper arm. The blade is 7 1/2" Thanks

This motor looks like one I had on my MGTD, but I'm not sure that one was original. The blade looks like standard issue from any number of A parts houses.

I have a different looking smaller aftermarket one that I removed, cleaned up, & reinstalled -- it is a 6V electric wiper with no switch that came with my 1930 Briggs Town Sedan.

After removing all of the caked grease & re-lubricating it, I found that it removes rain from my windshield about as efficiently as a Popsicle stick attached to an 1890 Grandfather Clock Pendulum.

My "original" 6V electric wiper from e-bay moves at just about at the same slow speed & is not great during rain.

Took advice from former replies herein & resorted to Rain-X which works much better than my 6V electric wipers.

Just a word of caution in case one may get interested in any type of very expensive vintage 6V electric wiper seen on e-bay.

My 29 Tudor had the same red aftermarket wiper motor. They may have been used on Cushman trucksters and some other such machines. You might have to buy a longer blade and cut the ends off. That's what I had to do for the short blade on my 1949 Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck. BTW, on my modern cars I find that you can't get wiper blades that will even last a year anymore.

Tom, next time you replace your wiper blades buy the new type, think they call them Beam type. I finially replace original wiper blades on my 2001 Silverado a year or so ago. Best wiper blades I have ever bought. They came stock on my 2006 Impala and they still work as well as the did when new.

That motor was sold by places like JC Whitney.They were used as a universal replacement for old cars and Jeeps.It is marked made in Japan on the back.I've seen lots of those,that picture jumped right out at me.They seemed to work well,just a hot wire and you were in business.

Thanks for the info. May be near impossible trying to find a blade for this thing. Time to get creative I guess.

Ray Horton gave you your answer... so don't overlook the comments. This blade shown ( far right photo) is a common replacement and is available from the model a parts suppliers. The motor as Keith and others indicated is a cheap replacement generic sold to just do the job. It's debateable if they do that ( right now it isn't).

Being a restorer forum this of course was not the original equipment part. If you want a stock part you will have to search for a good unit. They are out there and available..albeit probably not as cheap as you would like.

Again, if you want a blade they are available!

Hey thanks, I checked my vendor catalogs and sure enough there in Brattons was what appears to be an identical blade.

Looking at picture #3 I believe that the blade is mounted on the swing arm wrong. The blade should be turned end for end (180') and the hook on the blade mount brought up and into the swing arm from underneath. It has to be hooked and then rocked into positon. The blade at the mounting point will then swing up into the swing arm. The swing arm will then give the blade support at the mounting point and help keep it from rolling from side to side.
