Personal Record Set
I have been driving Model A's for 45 years and yesterday I set a personal record. I put $43.44 worth of gas in my Roadster. Those $5 fill ups were the good old days.

Re: Personal Record Set
When I first drove my A in the summer of 73 I worked at a gas station, and gas was 28 cents. But,i made less than $2.per hour,so I had to work nearly 2 hours to fill it up.Now,it's less than an hours pay to fill it.To be fair back then it was wages, today,it's what I charge for contract labor, whether I'm working on something, building, plumbing, doing electrical, driving truck,or operating equipment.I do short term work for guys in the trades that need help for an hour or a day.

Re: Personal Record Set
Being retired and living on a fixed income, I limit gasoline purchases to $40 each, and no more than one per week. No more washing parts in gasoline. I am thinking about a wood chip burner I can tow and run my Model "A" with.

Re: Personal Record Set
$40 once a week is still over $2000 two thousand dollars a year!

Re: Personal Record Set
I filled my A up with ethanol free gas about three weeks ago for $4.299. It’s gone up since then, but I haven’t needed gas while I have the car apart for servicing and waiting for parts.
I don’t like the gas prices, but I love to drive the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's about the same here in Australia. You guys needn't feel special - we are all in the same boat.

Re: Personal Record Set
Yes, they are but that's the thrust of this thread. European things are notoriously expensive and quality variable.

Re: Personal Record Set
I fill my Model A with whatever I find, gas, diesel, jet fuel, used motor or veggie oil, alcohol, you name it. never had a problem. I usually use about 90% gas or alcohol and 10% something else. I scrap so I always find mowers with motor oil and gas in 'em, mix it up, filter it, run it. never had a problem, runs fine with no smoke, no fouling, no clogged jets. Thank God Henry made em multifuel.

Re: Personal Record Set
I just drove a 26 foot u-haul truck ( lightly loaded) from Florida to NC. It burned $40 PER HOUR of gasoline at 60-65 mph. That was a $450 day plus the price of the truck. Oof

Re: Personal Record Set
A good habit to remember to close down the GAV when engine heats up. Every mile counts. I'm not ready to build a dung burner on my truck yet.

Re: Personal Record Set
I saw an article that said GA had some of the cheapest gas in the country. As much as it hurts me to fill up, I cant imagine what those of you in CA are dealing with.

Re: Personal Record Set
I am so glad I bought my hybrid car before the fuel prices started up. An honest 50 mpg. Such a pleasure to pass gas stations.
I am getting around 20 mpg with my 1930 Fordor A. Weber carb with 5.5 Snyders head. Mitchell overdrive. 2,000 rpm at 60 mph.
