Hub Stuck
The 1st picture is a photo of when I rebuilt the breaks this spring. The 2nd picture is of the hub puller I attempted to use today. Despite the hub being recently off. The threads in the puller stripped out when I attempted to use it. The 3rd picture is the current setup I plan to use. Note the parts from the fist hub puller I am having a tough time pulling the hub. The car is a 1938 standard. I am running the original brake/cable setup. The brakes are backed off, the tire is off the ground, and the axle nut has been removed. I am looking for thoughts and opinions about the setup before I proceed and do something I will regret. My fear is I will crack the hub. Please include any thoughts on why it is stuck?

Re: Hub Stuck
Will this KR Wilson style work better as it exerts an even pull all around the hub? See it in this thread.
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...ght=hub+puller Plus, it has a swivel point which allows the threaded "puller rod" to rotate easily against the the hub. Last edited by 19Fordy; 11-04-2023 at 05:10 PM. |

Re: Hub Stuck
I only see two pictures and both are the same. You should put a nut
on the end of the axle when using the puller or you will mushroom the end. |

Re: Hub Stuck
Again; a V8 er in RG #85 [Oregon] had a hub stick because the 'key' top sharp edge bit into the hub. Hub had to be destroyed. I posted photos and the story here. I always round that top edge of the key stock part. Newc

Re: Hub Stuck
It may not be the hub but the brake shoes holding the drum in place.

Re: Hub Stuck
I often apply heat to the hub. tighten puller and hub will pop off when warm.

Re: Hub Stuck
You might try bumping the back of the tire with a 6 # sledge hammer in a couple of places. This shock applied in addition to the puller force will often break them loose.

Re: Hub Stuck
My hub puller is different, but the directions say to hit the center shaft with a hammer to pop the taper, if needed. Worth a try?

Re: Hub Stuck
Gentleman thank you for the help. Applying all of the suggestions above, made a good application procedure that worked well. It is off, thanks again.
