Sorry SDJason, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. A word of caution. In your pictures it appears you used an over abundance of gasket sealer? If that much squeezed out to the outside a like amount also squeezed to the inside and may end up in the oil pan.

Or in an oil passage.

The proble with this type of filter is that is dumps the oil on the timing gear and not into the valve chamber

Funny story. Some members of our club had our cars in the All Fords Car Show at Knott's Berry Farm a couple of years ago. I had my hood open and this guy was really inspecting my engine.

While we were watching him (from a safe distance) a friend that was in our group asks "You know who that is don't you. I say "I don't have a clue". Friend sez "That's Steve Saleen" (of Saleen Mustang fame).

Maybe he was thinking about what it would take to make it fast, haha

Nice that he also has an appriciation for the classics.

Are you saying that the 90 degree filter can deprive the valves of oil in some fashion? The thru the cover filter pipe does fit into the front oil passage by design, but the filter dumps it back into the chamber thru the other cover hole. Also, could the later lowered oil pan and pan shield coupled with the filter also contribute to an oil distribution issue ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe that this is a bypass filter and only filters part of the oil, so there is still a lot of oil going to the valve chamber via the original passages.

Is that a harmonic balancer I see?

It's a bypass filter, all bypass filters do that (on all engines, not just the Model A).

Not to my knowledge; but then again - I just inherited whatever previous owners did; maybe someone who knows more than I do can chime in on what they see.
