Default '39 window regulators

I need to install the rear window regulators in my '39 two door sedan. I'm dreading this as I've never done it before. The channel is already on the glass. Is it better to install the lower channel on the regulator & then lift the assembly into the opening? It pretty much looks like a two man job, but maybe not. Thanks in advance, Rod.

Rod .........

I’ll be looking at this for answers, as I had a bitch of a time with mine on a ‘40 Sedan. I never could get the window remounted to work. The opening is so small to work in also.

Good luck !

Mike

Had the same problem with my 40 sedan, very difficult need LOTS of patience.
Cracked the new glass a little on the bottom corner, i put a Bonneville decal over it and it don't show.

I sure would not want to do that again! But now i'm having a problem with the glass on the "deformed" passenger door, the glass is being sqeezed so tight its very hard to go up or down, i'll have to open up the channel somehow.
Like i said need a lot of patience, but in my old age my patience is very short.
P.S. i'm almost as old as ol'Ron.

this is a 2 man job. install reg. first but dont screw in place. then get your glass in and with glass all the way up get reg. arms into glass channel. install stop screw and then secure the reg. i too broke a new piece of glass but it was when installing garnish moulding. the first one or six attempts will be the hardest.

I'm thinking everybody that's installs the glass in one of these cars breaks a glass. Regulator first. Then glass. Raise regulator and attach to glass then get regulator in place and screw it in place. When you start to get tired and mad go,in the house and watch Gunsmoke.

I did my 39 tudor by myself. I can't give any superior advice other than patience. I heard a rumor that the factory workers assigned this duty only lived to their mid 30s.

Hi guys, and thanks. Regulator first & then glass, eh? After all the bad comments I'm still apprehensive but that sounds like good advice. Thanks again, Rod

I will try it again this next Summer, but I also broke the first glass trying to install. A real bitch.

I worked in the auto business since 1960 and for the life of me....I cannot imagine these cars rolling along the assembly line at 40 jobs an hour and putting these windows-in under that kind of time structure ! The second thing....is the headliner. That was also installed on the assembly line and that is also a bitch of a job. How they did it is a wonder !

Britman is right.....I don't know how these guys could live past 30 is that was your job "EVERY" day !!!!

Mike
