I have two towers, one has hollow pins and the other has solid pins, peened over to hold fork/s to shaft/s.

How are these removed, and how are they peened over again when replaced ?

Is one side peened out of tower and then inserted from bottom up thru hole and then just the top peened over ?

How is the pin blocked under so the pin can be struck from the top ?

Edit, just after I finished typing, is the stick removed and a blocking bar in a vise used up thru shifter hole to back the pin up ?

You could do it that way, but it's awkward. I just use roll pins the right size and length. Easy to fit and remove, and they stay in place

You would have to be able to get to one end well enough to either partially drill it or grind the peened end down flush so you can drive the pin out. Roll pins would be the hot smokin tip at reassembly like Brian mentioned.

The last forks I removed from a '36 and a '39 top, I believe I just reformed the hollow ends that were expanded some to hold the pins in and they came out with some light tapping. Then removed a sheet metal plug at one end of the rods and drove the rods out of the forks. Was not a big problem. Could probably reuse those pins when the time comes to put a top back together.
