at the drags with the flathead
Well, a reasonable day at the strip yesterday,2 losses and one win ,
The flathead went great as usual. starting our qualifying at 1 pm when the temp was 36 deg c,our top speed was a bit down at 136.6 mph,we thought the eng may have lost some HP, but did three more runs in the afternoon with the last in 35 deg C.mph up a little at 137.12.et 9.9 Racing ,ist race ,lost ,9.57 @ 137.6 mph. second race another loss,9.60 @137.14. Last race temp 25 deg C at 9-30 pm in the evening. Win. reaction time.200, 60ft 1.29,1/8 et 5.94,1/8 mph 113.42, 1/4 et 9.45 @137.95. this was a good race for us ,as the other car was a 540 cuin chev powered rear engined dragster, the driver came over after and thanked us for a good race ,he was impressed our eng was only 276 and a flathead,I said our eng was only small compared to his,but he said it sure goes all right. Did a leakdown test this morning (sunday) worst was 7 %, so will leave the engine for now. We have plans to build another chassis and engine but have a few other projects to do first. We also got a good rap from the announcer about our old engine,so had plenty of interested spectators through the day. One guy thought we had a V16 engine as we have twin plug home made heads fitted. Lawrie, Now I know why Walt Dupont has photos of your dragster on his garage walls!
Awesome looking, and running, powerplant. Thanks for continuing to prove what a stout engine the flathead can be. Keep leaving those chevies in the dust! -VT/Jeff |

Re: at the drags with the flathead
Hi Lawrie, great job, I know your best speed is 140.something. You really know how to tune that baby. When you come to my place again, I want you to tune my 286 in my dragster. But right now I'll send you a snowball. LOL Walt

Take plenty of pictures and videos so when you get too old to participate you can still have fun with the memories. Good show!!

Re: at the drags with the flathead
Lawrie, that nice looking Flathead is enough to intimidate most Chevy owners especially when you pass them on the track . Were you driving? The next time you come over to visit Amish Country we could spend a day at the Cecil County Drags.

Re: at the drags with the flathead
Hey Lawrie, Could I request more photos please? (Edit: I just found a couple in your album.)
Are those EGT sensors in the exhausts? How much fuel pressure do you run? Is this a picture of your two-plug heads? Re: at the drags with the flathead
Lawrie - Thanks for the post. Beating an OHV Chevy has to be a great feeling. Who says Flatheads are dead?

Re: at the drags with the flathead
Walt , you need to bring a snowball over, then you could have a drive, as well as get some Aussie sun.
JWL, you think I,m not already old,my boys tell me I am. I thought after my performance on sat night I was back to just paying the bills and out of the driver seat but looks like I got a reprieve. Lol. John, we will be back next year, and will take you up on the drags offer, and its me driving ,thats why the 2 losses. Ol ron. Great to make your day, dont forget your inputs helped. Jeff,EGT yes, fuel press I dont know,we had the fuel press on the data logger but changed that to the oil pressure.we run a hilborn setup that I got direct from them and they set it up for us,we only change the pill ,sometimes we dont do that too good, but have fun. Re: at the drags with the flathead
Wow! If a flathead will do that I may try to push mine over 65 mph someday!
