Default 1953, 215ci rebuild help

Hi guys, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for good parts suppliers. I am rebuilding my 1953, 215ci inline 6 cylinder engine for my truck. I need rings, gasket set, main brgs, rod brgs ect.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

215/223 gaskets and bearings are available from most of the big parts warehouses.
Rings for the smaller 215 should be available the pistons are not.

Thanks guys, I just inherited this truck. I have done a lot of body work in the past but never rebuilt a motor. This will be my first attempt. Could you please provide the actual names of trusted suppliers.

I used a local shop when I rebuilt the 215 in my 53 Courier. This shop is in the Parts Plus network. They provided all the parts and did the machine work. The 215/223 is pretty common. So parts should not be hard to get. Look for a jobber that has been in business a long time, like 4 or 6 decades.

A local parts store ?? Nice to have an actual person to assist you...
Otherwise there are re-ring kits online from Clegg and falcon.
While you´re at it give the oiling of the rockers some attention it´s a weak spot on that engine.

If you have an operation like this in your area use them.

The machine shop crew here knows their stuff. This is not your typical parts store.

Like flatheadmurre says oiling is an issue. I had the block cleaned and checked for cracks when i did mine. There is only one supply line to the rocker shaft. Make sure it is clean and not kinked. Where it is pushed into the block under the side cover make sure the rubber sleeve is fully seated. Check the flow by manually spinning the oil pump.

tz5dv9,

I have a complete 215 out of a '52 Customline that ran good when removed with 52K original miles. Has trans clutch and bell housing. Also has air cleaner, carb, generator, starter and fan. I am also in Michigan (Shelby Township) northeast of Detroit. If interested in the engine/trans, send me a PM with you're email address, and I can send pictures.

41Ford1, are you using the Sanel's in Concord or Manchester? Good to know they are pros. I buy the paint for my shop from them.

The machine work is only done in Concord.

I have some NOS engine parts for your motor. Probably less than half what most suppliers ask. Let me know when you find out what oversizes you need.
