In IMHO it is more likely a good thing to do when mounting radials on the older style rims that did not have the best bead sealing features, however, I know there are members here who profess that running radials on old style rims is totally safe because they are, and have been, doing this for some time now. I prefer a "safety net" by using the correct tubes in radials mounted on my 35 wires based on the speeds I drive while sometimes navigating some pretty sharp curves. Again, just my opinion.
