Thumbs up EFV8 Club 2016 ENM - Gettysburg - August 8-11, 2016

Hello Everyone, We've just recently learned this breaking news.

The National Capital Regional Group of the Early Ford V8 Club of America is delighted to be able to announce that they have been selected to host the 2016 Eastern National Meet.

The dates are Monday August 8th through Thursday August 11th, 2016.

The location is Gettysburg, PA. I'm not over-selling it when I say that this is a world-class destination that offers a staggering number of family-friendly entertainment and educational opportunities, without Washington DC, or New York City type prices.

The meet theme is: "Come back for some fun, with the Ford forty-one." It is the 75th anniversary for the 1941 model year.

While the ENM will be held at the same venue as the 2014 meet, plans will include a new schedule of events and tours to enhance some of the favorites and standards.

Organizers also managed to negotiate a LOWER HOTEL RATE than in 2014, and they've LOWERED EARLY VEHICLE REGISTRATION TO $75! When was the last time you heard of the price going down on something? (EDIT TO CLARIFY: Early Registration is scheduled to close on October 31, 2015.)

Expect the Meet to bring back popular activities like the Ice Cream Social with Entertainment, and Movie Night. But it will also be having all-new Garage, Bus, and Driving tours.

If you were lucky enough to come in 2014, I'll bet you left town saying things like "I wish I'd had time to see _____" and, "That was a lot of fun, but I missed _____." We hope you'll want to come back and make some new cherished memories with your flathead friends.

If you missed it in 2014, now's your chance to see what everyone keeps talking about.

We invite everyone to enter their modified Steel-Bodied Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles in our Display Class which will feature awards. (EDIT TO ADD: Alternative drivetrains allowed.) (EDIT: See post #4 below for more information on the Display class vehicles.) (See post #11 below for more info.)

This news is so fresh, the meet organizers are still pulling together details, but they wanted everyone to know so y'all can set your plans. If I edit this post, I'll note what the changes are, so be sure to check this original post occasionally.

The host hotel is the Wyndham Gettysburg, with the Courtyard Gettysburg right next door. The venue features trailer parking with night patrols, restaurants, a brew-pub, movie theater featuring first-run movies, and plenty of paved space for our clan-gathering. There's a free shuttle from the hotels to downtown and attractions along the way.

The Concourse and Swap Meet are open to the public, and if you can't come to the Concourse, then a drive through the hotel parking lot any time during the Meet is just like going to a car show! Official Meet Events are limited to registered attendees and guests. Some events require a payment to attend.

Please mark your calendar now and plan to join us for some unforgettable fun! Thank you!

SOME CLARIFICATION HERE!

WHILE WE WILL OFFER A DISPLAY CLASS AT THE ENM 2016 IN GETTYSBURG, EVERYONE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT IF AWARDS ARE GIVEN IN THIS CLASS, THEY WILL HAVE NO NATIONAL V8 CLUB RECOGNITION ON THE AWARD AND THE AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN AT A DIFFERENT TIME DURING THE MEET. IN 2014, THE DISPLAY AWARDS WERE GIVEN OUT AT THE ICE CREAM PARTY. IT'S LIKE HAVING TWO SHOWS IN ONE LOCATION AT THE SAME TIME.

THESE ENTRY'S WILL NOT BE PARKED AMONG THE OTHER CLASSES.

Cecil E Polan
President, RG 36

There will be a special one day registration available for display class vehicles only and membership in the EFV8 club is required. Awards for this class will be Regional Group awards as opposed to National awards given to Touring and Touring A Class vehicles.

Great news! I was fortunate to attend last year in June. Hopefully it won't be too hot in August.

Phil, Phil, Phil,

You live in Chambersburg. That's the same climate as Gettysburg.

The honest chances are that there will be some "warm" weather in August.

After Charlotte 2009, I got myself some products like these from Cool Downz. A gel-bead filled bandana that after soaking in water, cools because of the evaporation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofn5LZaJvYE

Get a couple...

Another thing is that the meet is held yards from the air-conditioned hotels, so it should be easy to duck inside for some relief.

The canopy tent, with tables and chairs, that was set up on the concourse at the raceway was a great relief for everyone from the sun and heat, not to mention a seemingly infinite supply of bottled water on ice. Maybe we can arrange for someting like that at the next Gettysburg meet.

Good news for Cecil and Redneck..... Google is your friend.... I found a Hooters Restaurant located in Mechanicsburg, PA, not that far north of Gettysburg on Rt.15

ps...take plenty of pictures while you are there for those who are not allowed to go to those types of establishments

You can attend the concourse as it is open to the public. To attend any other functions at the meet require a membership and the registration fee.
Just curious why you would not want to be a member? The membership gives you the V-8 Times magazine and it's worth the price of admission. You don't need to go to meetings or be actively involved, just wait for the mailman to show up with the V-8 Times.
I encourage you to attend the concourse and you might "get the bug" to join. You'll see its a family oriented function with a bunch of great people who have the same passion, old Ford V-8's.

I think Rochester was the closest and that is 3 hours away with a new car kinda far for a breakfast meeting. My fault for living in the sticks. Maybe there are closer clubs now.

Hi Everyone, Without trying to get into a tussle with anyone, I'll remind y'all that even though the first official day is Monday, there will be plenty of Flathead activity on Sunday the 7th. for folks who can't make the Monday-Thursday events. There will be plenty of cars around Friday the 12th, for that matter.

The Concours on Wednesday will be open to the public, 9am to 3pm, and I'm pretty sure the swap meet is open to the public (Mon-Thurs, 'all day').

If you're in the area, a drive through the Wyndham parking lot is a treat for the eyes. Stop by and chat a while!

"HOTROD_WILLIE...They always have the show during week. Works great for them. sad"

This is starting to sound like your "yearly routine broken recording post" for any Early Ford V-8 Club of America Meets that are ever announced here.
Based on your previous "Internet Troll" like posts in the past on these events, both here on Fordbarn, and also the harrasing type posts you have made in the past on the EFV-8C/A website, I doubt if you would even consider attending any of these meets, regardless of which days of the week they are scheduled to be held on.

Hi Everyone,

We're gonna have a great time. Just remember August can be hot around here, but the hotels will always be just a few steps away, even closer than last time because of the re-working of the parking.

John. I was responding to one early v8 member Mr. Smith why the show is held during the week. Being you are early V8 member can you respond to the Mr Smith quote. Instead of calling people names. If you keep calling FB member names you might end up like your friend. I would hate to see that happen to you. Have nice day.

Jeff, I have to agree with you, as good as the last meet in 2014 at Gettysburg turned out to be, the plans for the 2016 Eastern National Meet look even better. The Concourse and Flea Market areas will be setup directly behind the host hotel. Just a short walk out the back of the hotel and you will be right there, in amongst a group of the nicest early Ford V-8's that you would ever expect to see in one location. There will be more trailer parking available and it will be just a short walk from there to the host hotel lobby. There will also be security provided to keep watch in the trailer parking and other parking areas. The tours sound really exciting to me, especially the one going to Antietam Battle Field and also to see a private collection of cars and their restoration shop. There is also a tour scheduled to the Strasburg, Pa., Train Station and Museum, located in Lancaster County right in the heart of beautiful Amish Country. There is some great entertainment planned for both the Welcome Party and the Ice Cream Social Party.
For anyone who plans to attend and have not yet made hotel reservations, you should get moving on this quickly before the lower price negotiated rooms are all taken.
I know I am looking forward to this one, meeting up with old friends, and making new friends.
Come on down, over, up, or around to the '16 Gettysburg ENM...... this is going to be another good one for sure!!

Just a short walk out the back of the hotel and you will be right there, in amongst a group of the nicest early Ford V-8's that you would ever expect to see There will be more trailer parking available and just a short walk to the host hotel lobby. There will also be security provided to keep watch in the trailer parking area. The tours sound really exciting to me, especially the one going to Antietam Battle Field and also to see a private collection of cars and their restoration shop. There is also a tour scheduled to the Strasbourg, Pa Train Station and Museum, located in Lancaster County right in the heart of beautiful Amish Country. There is some great entertainment planned for both the Welcome Party and the Ice Cream Social Party.

John please answer Jacob Smith question. He would like eat ice cream to. He has to work. Are you using club money to buy the ice cream? What about all the Jacob that has to work that can not make to ice cream social? Those members should have chance to eat ice cream. Is ice cream social just for the retire members? Jacob is early v8 ford member. If you had ice cream social on the weekend all the members can go. When you work it is hard to get off during week.

Please be aware that the availability and cost of the hotel always has a bearing on the dates of a meet!

Cecil, The conflict is always between retired fixed income and working people with more disposable income. If I took 3 days for the ENM and another 3 for Hershey... the wife would not be a happy camper with what was left........

There are always difficult/tough choices that must be made along the way in what has to be done vs. what we would like to be doing. When I had to work for a living I had to make those difficult decisions one way or the other depending on priorities and other considerations. If I wanted to go to an Early Ford V-8 meet, vs. Hershey, vs doing several other hobbies or interests, I just had to make up my mind on what was most important to me, and other members in my immediate family. Decisions, decisions, decisions.....there always has been and always will be these decisions that require a lot of different considerations regardless of which day or days of the week that these events, or whatever interests there are that wants of our time, actually fall on.

There will always be whining "willies" that complain about something, or just about anything actually, when it comes to attending organized functions such as this meet.

Cecil, another big consideration for scheduling these meets to begin on say Monday, or maybe end on a Friday, is that this will allow travel time to, or from, the meet on a weekend. Overall, this may mean less time has to be taken off for those who are not retired and still working.

Get signed up for this ladies and gentlemen, this is going to be another great Early Ford V-8 Club Meet that you and your family will want to attend!

For those that has work can not make it to the Early Ford V-8 show. Check this show is Oct. 21 thru 23 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) Moonshine festival in Dawsonville, Ga. There are lot of Early V8 Fords, also live music. The show is fun for whole family. The money raised at the show goes to help out charity for kids.

Don't get me wrong, I have my hotel reservations and hope to go, especially if I get my interior in. But I have planned for almost every year but other work priorities get in the way. Made Saratoga for a day, made my first Hershey for a day last year. will try for 2 at Hershey this year.

Jim, I hope to get to meet you if you come to the Gettysburg Meet I believe you are aIso a member of RG36, or maybe it's the Northern VA RG? I have been wanting to see that '32 of yours for some time now, and it would not matter to me if the interior is done or not . It's just nice to see those '32 survivors any way they happen to come.

42deluxe, in my opinion, if I had only one day that I could attend, it would have to be the day of the concoure judging, Wednesday, August 10th, since all, or most all, of the cars will be lined up in one parking area according to yom. I'm usually like a kid looking in the candy store window .

Hi Everyone, 1942deluxe, I feel you, I'm still a working guy too. The mortgage company doesn't have a sense of humor.

I second what JM said, if you're not registered for the meet, that means you won't be able to go on tours, banquets, etc. (Unless you get on as someone's guest under their registration, hmmm.)

As a person of the public, Wednesday would be a great day. All the cars registered for judging, voting, or display will be out and shined up (as applicable). There will not be a too-early to get there, or a too-late to leave. If you're hanging out (say by the '35-36's) you may even get asked along to supper if you're looking hungry.

Even though it's a two hour trip down and back, any time during the week there will be some kind of activities. I'll be there Sunday before the meet and Friday and maybe Saturday after the meet. If you catch me at the right time I may even let you behind the wheel. You won't be able to miss me, the Blue '36 Phaeton with the smiling fool in it.

As I've said, a good time will be had by all!

My Father In Law has indicated he might like to go. He is 83 and still working! I think it would be a great day for both of us. I've known him since 1970 and we've never had a cross word(been married to his daughter for 35 years). I know the days for us doing things like that are winding down...really going to try and make it. I'll look for that 36 Phaeton if we make it!

I went to the Saratoga meet as just a walk on. Still had a great time and met a lot of people.

John, I support ( means I pay dues) in both clubs (I think). I only make a meeting or two a year. Work hard to pay for the car parts. Also a member of the River Rats Car club...not sure you know those guys. Also belong to the AACA Bethesda group. Haven't had the car running since I bought it back.

Hi 1942deluxe, close... It's Wed the 10th. Official times 9AM to 3PM. Yes at the Wyndham Gettysburg at 95 Presidential Circle.

Remember to look me up, both of y'all can get a ride-n-drive! I might have two cars there so even if the Phaeton is stuck on the show field, we can take a putt with the other.

Thanks, Jeff. That sounds great and I'll p.m. you when we get close. My father in law was down for a visit this past weekend and we went for about a 15 mile ride in the 48 business coupe. He was in his glory and I know he'll love seeing the show. I had the right day at least!

Okay folks, just a little over three weeks untill the Early Ford V-8 Club will begin celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the 1941 Ford at their Eastern National Meet in Gettysburg, PA. If you have not yet made plans to attend, you still have time to sign up and enjoy all the great activities that are planned, and see some of the most beautiful Early Ford's, Mercury's and Lincoln's that you will ever lay your eyes on.

I am really looking forward to attending and meeting up with many of my Early Ford V-8ing friends!! Hoping to C U there!!

Some of us met at the hotel today and went over the show field and some other issues and the hotel has agreed to continue the room meet rate until the 18th. Everything is right on track. We will be ready for all the nice people and nice cars!

Peter, good to hear you will be attending the '16 Gettysburg Meet after having to cancel your plans to attend the '14 meet due to technical difficulties. Have you made any changes to your 35 3w since the Rodders Journal Show in Pimlico, Md?

Last year at Charlotte was my first V8 club meet and unfortunately I spent more time with the car than I did meeting all you great people. I will be there with my 35 convertible sedan and I promise to be more sociable this time. Look forward to seeing and meeting with you all so stop by and say hi.

Yesterday My wife and I drove to Charlie in N.Y. to get my transmission for my 40. We left home at 6 AM and got home at 4 PM. 560 miles. Now to get it back in the car. Maybe tomorrow if things go OK. I look forward in going to Gettysburg as always. Charlie took me a ride in his 40 pickup and what a ride. That truck does not half to take a back seat to any flathead. Charlie got to meet my Cattle dog Katie. Alice and Charlie are special people. It been a pleasure to know them.

Hi Everyone, I am finishing up the planning and directions for the Thursday Museum Tours. I pre-ran the routes on Friday. We're going to the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (www.emmr.org) and J's Car & Truck Museum (www.jcristmuseum.org), a round trip of about 75 miles. The tour goes about a mile on Studebaker Ln, which is a twisty fun backroad!

I can't hardly wait for August 8th! Will be arriving on August 6th, hopefully with two cars.

Come join us for a great week of activities and Flathead Fun. "Come back for some fun, with the Ford Forty-One!"

....wondering if a non-member would be able to get a swap meet space for one day?

I'm a Model A guy and seem to have accumulated quite a bit of pre-WWII foreign Ford owner's manuals, era advertisements, era foreign Ford magazines ("Revista Ford", "Ford Im Bild", "Revue Ford", etc), etc and it seems like this meet would be a great venue to get this stuff into the hands of the folks who could appreciate it.

Thanks,
Brad in Maryland

Hi Brad, I'm not the meet Chairman so I don't have a final word on the subject, but to get your own swap space you'd have to be registered for the meet. To be registered for the meet, you'd need to be a V-8 Club member or have a member add you to their registration.

I'd encourage you to come on up, and see what develops. It sounds like you have some neat stuff and I'm certain you'd enjoy the day. Look me up when you get there.

Maybe you can make an arrangement with someone that has a space, to display your wares? Know that the swaps are most active on the first couple of days, that would be Monday and Tuesday.

Brad, Very Tangled,

I have paid for a swap space, that I will not be using (decided to not bring parts). Could it be possible for him to use my space?

Its your space to put whatever you want on it to sell. It is registered in your name.

Michael and Jeff, here's the problem with a person who is not registered for the meet using a swap space. The V-8 Club insurance only covers those incidents that may occur at a meet involving registered participants/club members. If an unregistered participant is involved in any activity sanctioned by the club and there is an issue such as an accident, it can cause the insurance to be null and void. The V-8 Club is then "on the hook" for any lawsuit that may result from the accident. Example; If a V-8 Club member trips and falls over a part in the swap space of an unregistered participant the club can be liable for the injury and resulting lawsuit. The rule about all participants being registered for the meet and being V-8 Club members has been in effect for some time. The insurance company sets the rules and the club must follow them. Even if Michael has paid for the space there is still liability for the club. All the victim has to do is show the seller was not registered and he was selling parts that belonged to him , it still can cause the insurance company to pull back and not cover the incident. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the world is filled with sue happy lawyers and victims looking for easy money. Insurance companies are also looking for ways not to pay a claim.

Tom Johnston
Looks like the Early V-8 Club needs to change insurance company. I know there other swap meet that run by other clubs that does not care if you belong to there organization or not. What about your local flee markets?

More vender you have better the show.

Hi Everyone, So far I'm having a great time at the meet! I'm seeing a lot of my friends that I miss when I'm not at one of these meets.

Sorry to pop your bubble Willie, but other swap meets are totally different than a swap meet at an Early Ford V-8 Club National Meet. The swap meet at a national meet is part of the meet and the insurance covers the entire meet. Other swap meets also have to have insurance, but the company who insures those swap meets may have different regulations. example; some swap meets don't allow the riding of bicycles or use of golf carts on the grounds. It all depends on the insurance company. They set the rules. If people don't like the rules I guess they don't get to play in the game.

"Looks like the Early V8 Club needs to..." No. The Early Ford V8 Club doesn't "need" to do anything.
Those persons who think the club should be doing something different ought to know that the club is run by people just like themselves, tirelessly devoting time and effort to conducting the business of the club, without compensation, I might add.
Those persons having opinions "need" to step up to the plate and volunteer to become members of the National Board, where they may effect those changes they feel the club needs to make.

Hi Everyone,

I started this thread to announce the Meet, and to let people discuss it.

This is not a thread to debate the merits of the V-8 Club, the dates of the meet, or the policies that surround it.

I say this because the 2104 Photo Post version of this thread, which I also started, was closed because of bickering about the politics of the Club. That thread, even though closed, has 13,300 views, and 120 replies.

So please try to keep it positive.

I know there are insurance company that would let non-member to sell at the early V8 show. Why would not look in to this? There are a lot of benefit to letting non-member selling at Early V8 show. One there would be more parts at the show. Two it would bring more people to the show that would be looking for parts for there project. Three you can charge non-member more money for the swap meet spots. Four you would great be recruiting tool for new members.

I don't understand why insurance company would care if you were member or non-member. I can see not allow riding bicycles or golf carts in swap area. I personal have be hit by a cart at show.

"If people don't like the rules I guess they don't get to play in the game" There are a lot of ball park to play in. Here is nice ball park to play in. They also have swap meet area that welcomes non members.

The Gettysburg meet is in full swing. Many nice vehicles are already parked in their designated spots on the show field and many more will come out from under their covers and out of trailers by 9:00 am tomorrow morning. The Concourse show is open to the public from 9am to 3pm, at no charge.
We had a nice 100+ mile tour today to the Antietam Battle Field near Sharpsburg, Md, and then to Williamsport, MD to see the Bowmen Car Collection where they provided a great buffet luncheon for all in attendance. I have seen many Fordbarn members here in the last two days and expect to see more tomorrow. I will be adding some pictures here soon, so stay tuned .

John & Jeff,

Glad you guys enjoyed the meet, I've been enjoying photos that are being posted on FaceBook. Think either or both of you might be going to the Moonshine Festival this October?

The only problem I seen a the meet was the heat. It was hot but I enjoyed the meet. I took my Trailer Queen to the meet. She had a great time.

I can honestly say Folks,.....that I personally had the greatest time at this years EFV-8 Club's Eastern National Meet in Gettysburg, PA!! And I am not saying this solely on the fact that it was done by our own RG36. The fun for me actually started as soon as I got there on Sunday afternoon, and continued until I departed on Friday afternoon. The one thing I will always remember, because I probably never laughed so much, was the Ventriloquist entertainment we had at the welcome party, especially when our own RG member, Gary Ruby was asked to come up on stage and take part in the show. He had everyone rolling in the aisles with his adlib performance. I only hope someone took some good pictures or videos of that and can post them here for everyone to see.
I also believe I enjoyed socializing with old and new friends at this meet as much, if not more, than seeing all the great old Ford V-8's that were there, and I can tell you, I really love seeing these early Ford V-8's!

A big Thank You to all who worked so hard to make this meet one that will never be forgotten!!

I agree with John (JM 35 Sedan) - a really fun event, great people, great cars and a great venue! This was a first V8 National for me to participate in and bring my 35 3 Window Coupe and the experience was really top notch! A real credit to all that were behind the planning and execution of the entire program. Thank you all!

Looking forward to seeing a picture thread of the cars of the 2016 Eastern Nationals in Gettysburg!

Peter, it was good to meet up with you again and see that gorgeously done '35 3w coupe. You would not believe how many folks mention your car to me during conversations, since they know I am a fan of '35's and especially the 3w coupes. Charyl Sanders put over 100 pictures taken at the meet on Facebook, but not sure you could view them if not a member. I probably have over 150 pics taken of the cars and places visited during our two driving tours, but need to download them for resizing before I can post them here. Jeff H. has copies of most of my pictures and it would be okay for him to post these here if he wishes to.

Hi Vic, October has a pretty full schedule for me and a couple of these things are right there competing with the time I would need to attend the Moonshine Fest. That has always been a fun show to attend in the past with several senic routes that can be taken when starting from the Mid Atlantic area. If anything changes I will let you know. Are the CCFH's planning to be there this year?

A couple of very special Station Wagons and the beginning of the Commercial vehicles. Cecil and Michael's '50's. A couple of dazzling Lincoln's. And I LIKE TRUCKS!

That 1941 Jeep is one of the 1500 that Ford made for the testing competition with Bantam and Willys. Ron Stauffer brought it right out of a museum to our show. The family was from a roadside produce stand that we passed on the tour to J Crist's Museum.

More from J Crist's Museum, some very rare stand-up-and-drive vehicles! The very last photo is one of mine. This happened five miles from home. Gotta love trailer tires! Glenn Sanders told me a trick for changing these without jacking up the trailer, need to remember that one!
