1935 Radio Restoration
I am looking for a reliable and knowledge person who can restore a 1935 Ford closed car radio to good playable condition. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Tom,
The radio is in St Clair Shores, Mich. Not that far from Western Mi. What city is it in Michigan? Mike |

Re: 1935 Radio Restoration
Mike-
This guy is an "old timer" and has repaired several antique car radios for me. Fast and reasonable. I don't know if he handles shipped radios for repair but he does do a lot of walk-in service. Antique Radio Service Lee Beyer 711 Ruth ave Holland, mi 616-335-2461 |

Re: 1935 Radio Restoration
I'll bring it up to like new playable condition for $50 plus parts and shipping. You must understand, that is not a restoration.

Re: 1935 Radio Restoration
Al,
I'm interesred in talking to you about getting my '35 radio in playable condition. Maybe restoration was the wrong word to use, I want it playable with the bad and questionable internal tubes and capacitors, etc. replaced. Let me have your contact information so we can talk. Mike |

Re: 1935 Radio Restoration
Al,
I hardly provided a proper testimonial! I should also mention that Al rebuilt the radio for my '36 and while I haven't yet installed it in the car (awaiting restoration) the work is top notch and the radio now plays exactly as it should. Al, Since we last communicated, I had the pleasure of reading a past article in the May/June 1999 V8 Times about your "reclamation" of the 1936 German Glaser-Ford Cabriolet. You are really too modest! Very interesting story, and extremely motivational. Do you still own the car... and is there a follow-up? Given the effort you put into the car, I can't imagine you would ever let it go. Best Regards |

Re: 1935 Radio Restoration
Hi Walter:
I'm glad to hear someone read that article about the Glaser/Ford. It is really a beautiful car, and a pretty good amateur restoration from junk condition. My son and I have restored several cars since then, all from basket cases. Among them are a 1938 Ford phaeton, a '36 phaeton (beautiful), a '41 C***y canopy express truck which we converted into a semi-woodie, two Corvairs, a Triumph Spitfire and we're now working on an awful 1950 Jeepster. We've done a few Model T's, but never a Model A. We love the challenge of bringing a bunch of junk back up to a beautiful piece of auto history, but we are not collectors. We try to sell our restorations (reclamations) a year or so after we finish, and really clean up on the deals. Sometimes we nearly cover the cost of parts and paint! If I could figure out how to post a picture, I'd show you some of them. Thanks for the kind words. Al |
