anyone have a closeup pix of it (not installed) ... is it a pre-formed plug or a putty-like substance that was wedged in place?

Thanks Vince. You saved me the trouble of finding that picture among 48 pages in Photobucket.

I have some dum-dum and tomorrow (if I remember) I will stuff it into my 28 distributor and see how it holds up.

Thanks for the link Vince, that is a much better picture than the one in the latest Judging Standards.
Actually I used that pic from Timothy Kelly in the Standards because it was NOT a degraded example. Tom Wesenberg's pic is a great "study" pic because the degraded version adds a clue to the process and material.
