Both are OK depending if you have a 28-29 or a 30-31 Model A/AA Ford.

The type with the "U" slot was 28-29...the other type, with squared bottom, was 30-31.

I do not know the reasoning for the change but would be interested to know.

Generally the rounded bottom is 28-9 and the square bottom is 30-1.

The reason for the squared slot, would have been due to the ease of broaching the slots. Tooling would have been cheaper to manufacture.
