Default Perch bolt I.D.

If my photo attaches, you will see the perch bolt that is used on the 40 pickup that I am putting together. I've seen other 40 Fords with a different style. Can anyone tell me if what I have is original for the pickup?

Thanks Barners. Kentf1003

Are you sure what you have is a 1940 perchbolt? Is there a number on it. I ask, because it doesn't look like either of the two types 1940 ford perch bolts I have seen. (One for that accomodate a sway bar and another that does not.)

That's the $60,000 question. The photo is of the perch that is currentlly on my 40 pickup. If an owner has changed it, does anyone recognize the model they used? Thanks. Kentf1003

I checked closely and there is no parts number on it. Wish there was.

That perch bolt is correct for 1940 Ford standard, and 1940 pickup trucks. The extra hole that is left open on about all of them is for the optional stabilizer bar.

The standard and pickups had a unique piece that bolted to that hole and picked up the stabilizer bar in a different way then the commonly seen perch bolt with the bushing used on 1940 deluxe and 1941 cars.

Thanks for the great information. Any idea where I could see a photo or diagram of the way it hooks to a sway bar ? It's nice to know that I don't have to switch perch pins. Nasty job. Thanks again. Youdaman.

This is what I have on my 40 truck as well. Where can you get those perch bolt "pins" or "bolts" that attach the sway bar?

you have pictured the EARLY 40 perch that is used with the early sway bar. The early sway bar did not work well and was replaced in production and service with the more typical later sway bar. The early style has a lot or parts and some are pictured in the green book on page 96 (top). Ford recalled all the dealer stock of early parts for a credit and melted them at the Rouge, so they are very hard to find and very difficult to put together a complete early sway bar system. What you have is correct in part. Unless your doing a restoration I would suggest you change over to the later style, since the early style could have been replaced by a dealer in 1940 as a warranty complaint issue (noise).
