Default 37 v/60 pan removal

My oil pan is leaking and I would like to find a different pan or fix the one I have. Can I remove the pan without any problems while the motor is still in the car . I've heard the oil pump is in the front and I sure don't want to open a can of worms that will break something in the process. I am trying not to create more problems than I already have. Thanks Jerry

From a 39-40 engine-chassis repair book---
It is not necessary to jack up the front of the motor to remove the oil pan, block the radius rod down with about 12" piece of wood
remove cap screws
