I've had flathead engines back to '37 models and none of them had a 97. They all had 94's on them.

The 97 came on as a running change in April of 36. The Chandler Grove (later Holley) 94 came out in late 38, I believe.

97's were used from late 36 to early 38. Late 38 and 39 used a Chandler-Groves 94,then Holley pretty much copied them and started being used on 40 to 56 in various forms of the same model, some of them were made in house by Ford themselves. ken ct.

I use 97s cause they are easier to setup/tune.
I like to keep my Hot Rods very simple.....and 97s are simple.

I have a 97 on my 34 , 37 and 38. Only problem I ever have is the occasional 'flood'.

According to JWL's book "Flathead facts" there isn't much differance other than the astedics. I have a polished 3 carb Edelebrock intake with 3/97's that I will retire on some day.

I personally like the Stromberg power valves way better than the 94's. I have 4 Strombergs in a row on an OT engine and I'm using two that I got from Max on a flathead for my current project.

This is all I have of my next engine. I still need everything that sits below this ha.

I am about to rebuild six on our 283 GM engine. It's about time---the car only has 249,700 miles since the last rebuild!

Have one on a '35 and two on an AV-8. Have a few more setting on a shelf for future projects.

I use the Stromberg's because everybody else does.

They also are simple enough for even me to rebuild them.

I agree with Neal, so simple to rebuilt, and frankly fun to do.

I have two 97s on a vintage Weiand in this car. Three on my other A. And I'm working on putting 4 on my T roadster racer.
