Default Rainmaker Remedy, small stuck bolts

Rainmaker Remedy to free small fasteners locked in place by rust or corrosion.

In my case the small Allen screw used to lock a 29 Quail in place could not be moved after 2 days of soaking with several penetrants. Heat was next but how? I set my battery charger on 12 volt high boost, clamped the negative lead on the quails nose, pressed a sturdy scratch-awl in the allen screw and held the positive lead on the awl until the end of the awl turned blue and things started to smoke. The screw backed out with normal force!

Our late "Mr. ED" had a huge ancient Lincoln welder. Fitty billion amps per second. To remove a head bolt he would clamp the Linc to the bolt and crank her full up. The old Linc would grown and jump around and the bolt would be soon loose

Thanks for the good idea Ron.

Would that have been a 50 amp boost charger or was it higher?

Thanks

I'm not very fond of about the improper use of chargers or welders, creating dead shorts even for this limited purpose might not be such a great idea.....

i agree touching the cables together and turning it on (high boost) is not a good thing for the equpiment or the person doing it..

Mr. Ed violated most laws of physics and lived to tell about it. His stories are stuff of legends. That old Lincoln would groan and do its job. He loved to create cars from junk and built several. he always welded with no glasses. He chain smoked even when on oxygen setting his face on fire more than once. His daily drivers were junk. He was a carpenter and painter specializing in water tower and flag pole painting. he built houses. He was a teacher as well. "Never go up a ladder empty handed" sez Mr. Ed. We all loved him. He passed at age 2139749283756235.

I know the type, every area has a Mr Ed. One of the posters had it right about not recommended but then there is some risk in getting out of bed. Back when we had copper water lines buried to the house, it was common to thaw out frozen lines with a welder. Thanks for the comments all. See you at Hershey Clem.

Ron, I like your idea, and ironically a few years ago a salesman came to the shop trying to sell me a unit that does just that. His website is http://www.theinductor.com/

I don't really think I have ever found a situation such as yours to have realized the need to own one of his units ....however in your situation, I like your spontaneous resourcefulness, along with your analogy about getting out of bed!

Thanks Brent, like yourself I work mostly on customer cars so I am the last stop! If I cannot fix it who do I go to? Usually I get the hard cases that have been around to others.

sorry, using an arc welder (not a MIG or TIG machine) as described has been in the actual textbooks for decades. and sorry again, a welder is already a dead short device. the transformer has very heavy output windings to handle this. just do it.

All any welder is, is a dead short! i restored a welder and learned how it works. The 2 coils build up the power and the power "jumps form winding to the other winding" when it is welding...So in short "A dead short"
