'37-'39 Spare Tire Hold Down...
Does anybody have pictures or could take some pictures of how the spare tire hold down bracket fits into the trunk and holds the spare wheel in '37-'39 cars?
I don't have the external '36 spare carrier anymore and thought that maybe I could the use later hold down bracket for my spare. Thanks |

37-38 cars were different from 39 cars. 37-38 have the wheel sitting flat on the left side of the trunk with a board over it. The 39 has the spare vertical at the front of the trunk.

TJ - I had forgotten! The coupes with split back bench seats had the spare vertical. Mid year 37 at least some of the standard coupes got the spare in the trunk. I *think* all 38 coupes had the spare flat in the trunk.

My 1937 Ford standard coupe with split back seat has spare laying flat on trunk floor with wood tray over it. Is this the one you need a picture of?

Re: '37-'39 Spare Tire Hold Down...
Looks like there must have been some spare bracket changes in 37/38. My 37 standard coupe has the spare mounted vertical behind the seat. In checking the V-8 Club's 37 book( I should have checked it sooner before giving my answer) there were some changes to the spare mount in the coupes. Pages 3-18 to 3-21 gives the correct info on the coupe spare mount. The early coupes had the vertical spare and in March 37 Ford moved the spare to lay on the trunk floor. In 38 and 39 standard coupes with the split back seat the spare tire mount was again vertical behind the seat. This info comes from the V-8 Club's 38-39 book on page 3-44. It looks like 38 coupe and I were both right on this one. Old Henry did some confusing stuff and keeps us from using the words "always" and "never"!
