Default 32 sport coupe wheel lug holes enlongated

My recently purchased 32 was at some point run at length with one steel chrome wire wheel loose resulting in all five lug holes enlongated..anyone know of a reputable repair shop that can properly weld & index the lug holes within reasonable distance to the Omaha area?

RB - Unfortunately, I can't speak directly to your question but, as a possible alternative, there are tapered washers available which would take up the "slop" in the worn holes. I've used them with some success on stock Ford wheels with worn holes. FWIW. Good luck with your problem.

Give Sioux Plating a call, and if they can't repair it, maybe they
can refer you to a company that can repair the wheel.
Here is the number of their corporate office at South Sioux City, Ne.

They also have a company in Lincoln, Ne.

800-228-8630 good luck

Thanks Henry, yes I have seen the washers & may resort to that type of fix, my concern was the enlongated holes have some degree of damage both fore & aft making it difficult to correctly index the hole position. The rear end happens to be An 8" Ford with a supporting axle flange & I may be over thinking this as the axle flange primarily supports & centers the wheel. may not be quite as critical as I'm fearing, but felt any input is certainly welcome. thanks again, Ron

Thanks, Will post photo's down the road, I have previous owners barn find photo's from Wisconsin dating from the mid 80's, & some build shots as well. The avatar shot was taken during a brief stop at the Harlan Ia. Shelby Co. race track on the 3 hr. drive from Ankeny Ia. via hwy 44 which runs parallel to I-80 to Papillion Ne. the day I acquired it. We were hoping to find a farm stead with a rural setting for photo's however eminent rain was pushing ever closer, no trip problems aside of instrument malfunctions & an intermitent brake light. Thanks again, Ron

Ron
Enlongated holes is one of the first reasons for replacing a wheel.
I would check all four corners for worn studs.
Very nice find.

Thanks cmbrucew, I have as you mentioned checked all wheels for indications of wheel damage & fortunately all checked to be without incident. All chassis parts were checked days prior to our journey including wheel lugs as all components were 25 years old including the tires. At our final destination while chasing other assorted problems it was discovered that at some point the left rear wheel was with less than correct torque. Thanks again for your response, Ron

cmbrucew .... While looking over your avatar 41 coupe photo, my slim to none memory bank harkened back to the mid fifties & a 41 convertible a neighbor had parked for unknown reasons. At 13 years old several friends & I tinkered & were able to get it running for short trips up & down the extended driveway being careful to cover our tracks & position it each day exactly as it was. Unfortunately for our soon to be tanned hides, we had not set the park brake on one of our short driveway cruises & while in gear slowly coasted over night to rest against the neighbors house. I'll never forget my fathers harsh words as we were summoned to survey any potential damages. Sometimes his spoken word left more of a mark than the leather belt he wore. Amen

As these are non stock wheels on a non stock axle, we are just guessing. What type of wheels are they, what type of nuts are used, are the centres steel? Are the nuts shouldered or standard type taper? Some good close up pics of the damaged parts would help. Are the wheels really centred on the axle? If not, could a ring be machined to make it a hub-centric fit?

As mentioned above, the studs could have been damaged too.

It's not safe to guess at offering advice on such a safety critical part.

How hard would it be to source a replacement wheel?

Mart.

Mart. As previously stated the axle is a later 8" & the wheel does as stated centers on the axle flange, they are I believe Mclean steel chrome wire wheels using an all steel construction with standard tapered type lug nuts & yes the studs were damaged & replaced.

RB. I saw that '32 advertised on CL a few months ago and thought it looked like a good car. I've been in the central IA area for many years (some in Ankeny) and never remember seeing the car around. It must have been tucked away quite a bit of the time. Please do post up more info about it.

Thanks corn fed, Alwavs good to hear from those near & far, yes it was advertised on C.l., body off completed in 1989 by father/son & father deceased some time ago. Driven less than 5000 mi. since completion, well done chassis & patch free body with exception of some work was done as expected on the original to the car fenders. Original color was dark green with less than show car black repaint over original finish, needs redone however can't fault previous owner as everyone has timeline & differing financial situations. Thanks, more photo's later. Ron

RB, just a note to say that Gary Mclean and his son Jimmy still make
wheels. They own Rally America in California, here is a link to call them.
I would surly guess that they could rebuild your wheel or make a new one.
