Posie reversed eye; before and after
My '38 came to me with a Posie reversed eye slider spring on the steer axle. It has the original spring on the rear. I've installed tube shocks all around and the car still rides choppy. The front spring has almost no arch to it. Can anyone who converted to Posie from stock tell me the before and after ride results?

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
About 10 years ago I installed a Posie # 2056 reversed eye front spring in my 40 Ford and the only difference was that it lowered the front end about 1 in. The spring is pretty flat and the front shackles look to be at about 45 degrees.Car rides the same as when stock. Rear spring is stock 40 with tube shocks all around. I never found my 40 to be a "soft riding" car.

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
I put a Posie's reverse eye spring on the front of a 40 coupe, lowered car about
1 1/4 inch, when doing this the tube shocks are almost bottomed out, less than 3/4 " of travel, solved this by making a longer shock adapter. This took the choppy ride out of the car, before it seemed to bottom out. Ride is very good now. |

19Fordy, your spring looks to have more arch than mine, see pic
Allen, thanks for that tip. My upper mount has another hole a couple of inches above the present location, I'll look into that. Last edited by 40cpe; 05-25-2014 at 09:19 PM. |

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
Years ago I put a 48 passenger car front spring on my 40 half ton, and added a homemade panard rod (the shackles were perpendicular to the ground). As I remember it, it lowered the front and rode
like a dream. |

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
I went through the same "issues" with my 40 sedan last year.
1. The original tube shocks came from Speedway----they were JUNK. We tried a couple of better gas shocks from others----they didn't help the "choppy" ride. The fix that worked for me was a set of Pro Shocks with a #5 compression and #7 rebound. They are true gas shocks, aluminum bodied, rebuildable . 2. Our Posey spring was also flat, like yours. We talked to Posey and they sent us an additional front leaf that was a support for the main leaf. That solved our arch problem and got our shackles at the correct angle. 3. The car now rides nice, slightly harsh but the car handles like a "bear". We also used Pro Shocks on the rear with slightly different valving. If you use use gas shocks on the front, you need a like gas shock on the rear for good stability. 4. My car has 1600 lbs. on the front axle which is about stock weight. |

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
The picture of the spring on his website shows 11 leaves including the main leaf. My spring has a total of 9. All of the ends are an even 2" from the next one, so it doesn't appear to be missing any leaves. I wonder if they make different springs for the same application? That could help account for the different opinions of the ride, and I know opinions and expectations differ.

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
My son inlaw has a 40 pickup, stock front end, 8in. rear with parrell rear spring. The front road hard, my daughter is fussey, he was about to put in a Mustang front end but I told him to get Mono leaf spring. He did and rides so much better. Walt

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
Our spring also had nine leaves. The additional spring they sent was a little thicker than the others and the extra leaf wrapped around the original spring eye.

Re: Posie reversed eye; before and after
I never had any luck with a Posie spring. I buy a new reversed eye mainleaf and then use the leafs from the original spring. I use the lipped teflon between the leafs. This has always worked good for me.
