Default Float-A-Motor motor mounts

My car has Float-A-Motor motor mounts. Since the rubber disks seem to be compressed quite a bit, so much that I feel there's metal to metal contact, I ordered a set of new donuts from one of the vendors. When removing the bolts of the rear mounts and then removing the upper donuts, I realized that the ones I have in my car are much bigger than the ones I received. The diameter of the bolts is bigger as well.

Ahh . . . of course, I have a '39 tranny, and since the motor mounts are actually transmission mounts, sort of, that seemed to be the problem. But when looking up motor mounts for a '39 in the catalog, they look different as well. Now I'm not sure what I have and where I would find a proper replacement for them.

Here are the photos:

Yes, I read "TOP" as well. Strange.

The doughnuts I got from Snyder's use the larger 7/16" daimeter bolts. The outside diamter of the doughnut is larger also. Another complete kit that I had in stock was cast iron and used 3/8 diamter bolts.

How come the motor mount says "TOP" on the underside?

"Maybe" who ever first installed them used different thickness donuts & they fit better upside down! I LOVE folks that know how to improvise!
Watch some of the crap they do on the VELOCITY Channel! They "ENGINEER" stuff, DURING assembly!! ------THEN, they got the "balls" to drive the thing

Hey Brother,
Hm, that's interesting, as never have seen the rubber donut with holes, other than donut hole in middle ?
I've had FAM mounts for ten years and keep an eye on the rubbers...no problems thus far !
BTW...having a '39 transmission has nothing to do with having FAM rear engine mounts. I do have the FAM trans mount part in place on the center cross member/trans.

Just recently installed FAM on the 31. Got them from Snyder's. The donuts look different than yours. Is that a crack at the bottom of the mount where the bolt goes or a stain from something? If so I would change the brackets. The whole FAM kit is around $60.00 if I remember.

The holes are designed to "soften" them a bit. NOT to be confused with MICE, in yo' local DONUT SHOP

Hey Bill,
Hmm, 'designed' to soften'....well I guess they did their job 'tooo good', as he says that they are too soft !

I have heard of guys using the newer material donuts ...that are kinda like those used in/around the front suspension. Can not think of the name of that material right now , but heard that it is tough and works. Second thing heard used is the flathead V8 front motor mount donuts, which are tougher material than what we are getting with these mice hole donuts !
