Post How to Determine Original Champion 7 and C-7 Plugs

I'm curious if there is any literature, photos, etc. that would be helpful in determining how to tell NOS, original C-7 and 7 plugs from replacement stock or later remanufacture. Much has been written about the Model A plugs and it is easy to spot the differences.

I understand that both plugs are take apart two rib style. Can you tell originals by hex base thickness, knurling patterns, packaging, etc?

I have a Rouge quality car and would like to put original plugs in it if possible. Thanks for your help.

the one pictured by Lenney is a C-7 with the brass top and it is three piece, so it can be taken apart. The 7 is very similar three piece with the brass top. there is a 7 FORD which is considered as a later replacement. some guys have glued electrical conduit nuts onto the one piece plugs to imitate the three piece. make sure all of the bases match since they can be exchanged with other take apart plugs.

Here's a comparison between the #7 (1piece), #7 (2 piece), & the C-7

I have four NOS C-7s (NFS) and a large collection of used ones. If you would need any parts to build nice ones, I could maybe help you out.

Don, thanks for posting the drawing. The knurling on my C-7 and 7 take aparts are reversed from the diagram, i.e., the 7's knurling does not extend as high as the one shown and my C-7 has more knurling than the C-7 depicted.

I'm also interested in the eBay listing, the one Lenney posted is being bid on while there is another currently on that is being ignored. I'm dazed and confused.
