Default 1953 Crestline Sunliner O-Drive emblem

I have a '53 Convertible with factory overdrive, and a Coronado kit. I was wondering if the overdrive emblem on the deck-lid should have been deleted or relocated when the Coronado kit was installed? There is no evidence of ever having the emblem, but the deck-lid could have been changed over the last 70 years.

The Coronado kit was a dealer accessory, so the car should have been built with an OD emblem on the truck lid. Either that, or the OD system was added after the car left the factory. Just my opinion.

I have an aftermarket continental kit on my 52. I has the Fordomatic Emblem. I would guess the emblem mounting holes are the same for the overdrive and Fordomatic. It appears the emblem would be partially covered by the Coronado kit so must have been removed. Hard to imagine that the factory would fill the holes and Paint the trunk lid to install the kit. By the way, my car has overdrive and the previous owner guessed that it was factory added. Not sure the clues to determine that. Once the car is running, I can search for the OD emblem.

Meric,

The answer to your question is spelled out in Product Sheet P-167 which covers installation of the Coronado kit. This sheet is included in volume 2 of the 1952-1953 Ford book, available on the Early Ford V-8 Club website and written by Craig Gorris and Ray Beebe.

The OD or Fordomatic emblems were to be removed and plugs installed. There is even a part number for the plug. The Product Sheet is very detailed on the required process.
