Default 1946-1948 Hot water heater

I can't get any hot air off my hot water heater in my 1947 Ford. Fan works as it should. Could the heater core be air locked?

The valve is open on the head.

Hi Seth, Here is a diagram of the plumbing for the Hot Water heater to check your connections and flow direction. I've never had a problem with water flow in these heaters.

Meric,

I'll check my flow direction. I did have the heater out for a repair last year.

Thanks,
Seth

I double checked the valve. It is open. I bet I have the flow reversed from when I took the heater out.

water flow in at bottom out at top--keeps out an air pocket

Leaving the hose at the top loose while filling really helps fill the core.

Went to work on it this morning at 7. Heater valve was plugged with black junk. I drained the system. Took the valve out and cleaned it. I then flushed the heater core. Refilled the system with new coolant. It works great now. Thanks.

Great! Sometimes it's the simple stuff. Love those heaters-the flathead engine makes heat quickly too.
