Model A Transport Price.
I am looking at a 1930 Coupe in Long Beach, CA. I am in Ocala, FL looking to get an estimate for an enclosed transport. The last two haulers I used through a broker were a nightmare. They didn't speak english and one used an electronic translator. The rigs they showed up in were pretty tired and the drivers looked the same. Is this the new norm?

Not necessarily ...however, to get a quality carrier that is legally transporting with a clean, modern truck & trailer is generally going to cost more than the companies you previously used. Therefore it really boils-down to what is this Coupe worth to you and are you willing to pay for the 'peace of mind' that comes with that level of service. I will PM you contact info on someone I use that truly understands what customer service means. |

Re: Model A Transport Price.
Transporting is a deal killer on many Model A sales. Adding 10-20% to the purchase price doesn't add up unless the car is one of the rare ones.

Re: Model A Transport Price.
the people you speak of are the cheapest denominator.
As Brent mentions......what do you want? price or peace of mind. one may cost 2k and the other 3500. Ive used russian transporters- price. The cars werent that great. But, the service and what I got wasnt the greatest either. all depends........ |

BUT unless this is a special car, or a special price, you will be better served to find something closer to home. Shipping costs may make this car too expensive. W. Michael |

Re: Model A Transport Price.
Almost all transport companies are really just brokers for self employed car haulers. There are many brokers out there....as you can find by googleing. There are many retired haulers that do an excellent job and take care of the vehicles they transport. Car hauling out of California can be more expensive than on the east coast. Look on Hemming's web site and find a hauler from that site. They wouldn't have connections to carriers on the Hemming's web site unless they were dependable. Good luck!

Sounds like you recently contracted for cheap transport. The first experience didn’t discourage you from going back for a second time. I have been in actual business since 2006 and have been on Fordbarn since Ryan bought it from Miss Shelly back in 2010. I carry 100K insurance for the vehicles that I transport - I am the only insured carrier advertising here on Fordbarn. Google “ Model T Transport “ and see what the first result is … Most vehicles - in general - are not worth transporting across the country unless they are rare or have sentimental value. I have stopped for the day in McCall, Idaho. In my trailer is this 1968 RS Camaro that has been in the same family since new. I picked it up in Lynchburg, Virginia and will be delivering it to Miss Stephanie this Friday who drove it back in high school … I am contacted daily by folks who expect me to transport their vehicle so it arrives in the same condition it was picked up in at the “ Broker Bait Price “ they were quoted …. That - is not possible for me to do unless I subsidize the expense out of my own pocket …. As of now I am available for direct enclosed vehicle transport from Northern Idaho and the surrounding area which includes Spokane, Washington. Jim

You may be able to save a little money if you tell the company that you're not in a rush to get your car. The price might be a little cheaper if they have 3-4 cars going to your area than just 1. I notice you are in FL I see many ads for FL dealers selling antique/custom/hotrod cars. You might check with one close to you who they use and if it would be cheaper to drop your car there. |

Re: Model A Transport Price.
Thanks for your input. I should say the last 2 haulers were to pick up cars I sold in Maine before moving to Florida. I have used haulers to buy my daily drivers as what I was looking for was never in the Rust Belt. LOL! Mostly Suburbans from Texas. Our latest driver (Mercedes) came from Nashville with no issues with the hauler. In 1980 I was an owner operator leased to Allied Van Lines Special Products. Machinery and Trade Shows. We always looked sharp and well dressed. I am going to agree to look closer for a Model A coupe. Thanks Everyone.

Passport Transport, Intercity, and Reliable. THEY DO THE JOB RIGHT! Yes, they cost money, but you get what you pay for. Just pay for it.

There are a lot of Model A’s out there, but they are all not equal in many different ways. If you have found one you like and are happy with! Buy it. You could spend a lot more time looking for something closer, and end up not finding anything you are happy with. I hope we are talking about a 20 footer or better, a driver or better, mechanically in good condition. Enjoy. |

I used a guy named Ian, out of Las Vegas, born and raised in the US, outstanding service, very nice guy 702-759-9213. I would not for a moment hesitate to use him again.

Re: Model A Transport Price.
When I bought my Model A Town Sedan about 17 years ago, from a gentleman in upstate New York, I hired Passport, then owned by FedEx, to deliver my recently restored car to Southern California. Thoroughly professional, driver kept in contact with me enroute, and the rig they used was incredible, and also very new. I don’t remember what it cost then, but for a Town Sedan I had dreamed of, it was worth the peace of mind.

Re: Model A Transport Price.
Sold my A powered roadster last month and the cost of transport was almost a deal breaker. Ended up splitting the transport cost. I have used Reliable on a number of occasions, including this one. Avoid the brokers and go with the big name national companies or one of the regulars posting here or on the HAMB.

Re: Model A Transport Price.
There is something to be said by finding a car you want local.
I bought a few months back a model 68c, that was 30 minutes from my house. Never thought that would ever happen. and the price was very good as well. |
