Brass Carb Plugs
I'm putting together a new Zenith carb for a friend and have a question about the brass plugs. Should I put anything on them before I put them in? I've seen that some use Loctite. What do you guys recommend?

Re: Brass Carb Plugs
The brass plug should fit like a cork in a wine bottle. Just tap it in with moderate force. If the plug is much larger than the hole there may be some danger in cracking the casting. Use care.

Re: Brass Carb Plugs
I've also used snug fitting lead balls, tapped down just below the surface with a pin punch & then roll over the top surface with a fat center punch. Never leaked! Bill W.

Re: Brass Carb Plugs
I use a tiny bit of damar varnish on drive in metal plugs.

The plugs in some kits are incorrect sized but it's easy to make them with a bit of brass on a lathe or even a drill chuck held against the bench with a hand file. Charles I think the car in your avatar looks stunning! Would you consider posting any fullsize pics for us to see? ....Looks like Brewster green....love the black wheels |

Re: Brass Carb Plugs
Thanks for the info everyone. Craig, yes the car is Brewster Green and Black. It's in pieces for a re-restoration but I'll see if I can find some old pics that are decent quality to post. I'm glad you like it!
