Cutting and forming welting
I've reached this point with the gas tank. I know you have cut Vees or arrows in the welting to get around the corners, any body got any suggestions? I've never done anything like this before.
Oh Yeah! The windshield is in and getting the gas tank under it could be tricky. Terry |

Re: Cutting and forming welting
Friend, Ted, HATES welting! He fills spaces with sealer, smooths them nicely, & has his pin striper paint it body color! NOBODY even notices.

Re: Cutting and forming welting
It's not hard really. 2 sets of hands makes it easy but it can be done by yourself. Although I think my windshield was out when I did mine.
I only cut V's when I'm making a concave shape. Otherwise I just make straight relief cuts when making convex curves. Maybe every 2 in cut a slice in the welt where it goes around the corners. |

Re: Cutting and forming welting
I think those V notches are called "darts".
My friend and I did his pickup with me on the inside pulling on the welting and tightening the bolts, while me was on the outside to make sure everything kept lined up as I tightened the bolts. I don't recall if we used tape to help pull, but I'm thinking the welt had enough material without adding to it. |

Re: Cutting and forming welting
A friend used self sticking Velcro squares, to hold the welting in place, on the rear fenders. Some have used double sided tape. Others have just used REALLY FOUL language +@^%$#+^%=%T&@%
Minerva had a loose spot, I injected Gorilla Glue with an Insulin Syringe & taped it down. A hundred things around my place are secured with Gorilla Glue & I also have a "GORILLA" brand workbench, where I "GORILLA" things. Bill Grunt
