Sorry, I don't know anything about an Atlas, but I've had a Back Yard Buddy for 20-years and I've never had a problem with it. I use it 3-4 times a week, all year long.

I'd stay far away from Atlas. See my email to thier distributor below. It's all made in China (no surprise) and I don't trust the quality of any of the fasteners.
The distributor (gregsmithequipment) did nothing to help.

Your assembly manual is atrocious! Drawing numbers do not match the parts list and the parts list descriptions are useless! A description of "Bolt" means nothing. Where is the size, length description? Is this supposed to be a multiple guess quiz?

Many assembly fasteners where NOT in the kit/parts bag. I had to go to 4 different stores to find enough metric replacements to complete the assembly. Not even the wire harness for the safety switch was included. I fabricated my own.

Chinese fasteners are highly questionable and 4.8 grade is way below any standard I would use. Fasteners equivalent to US grade 5 or higher should be a minimum.

Two different assembly instructions: one came with the shipment and one with the WP kit shipped separately. Torque specs of 80 lbs in one and 150 lbs in the other is ridiculous. Neither matches "Red Head" specifications. I suppose that the Chinese version of Red Heads are of some specific tensile strength but they have no specs included.

What should have been a 4 or 5 hour assembly job took 3 men 2 full days trying to decipher the manuals and including multiple trips to purchase missing fasteners. That's a lot of wasted time and extra money spent on parts.

I'm not happy.

I have had a Backyard Buddy 4-post lift for many problem-free years. Although a bit pricey....They are the cream of the crop...IMHO. Made in America (Ohio). Pat

Thanks all for your input - my take away, after reading all is - Atlas lift is a very good lift for the money but you need to have it professionally installed as instructions and parts idenification/descriptions are poor.

Back Yard Buddy seems to be top of the line and has a better write up but you will pay a lot more.

I have a Rotary, in ground lift and have never had a problem, however these installations have to be done during construction and certainly before the floor is poured. But that's not the point of this post.
Tom Morookian, brought up an important point. His experience had to do with the quality of the fasteners shipped with his Atlas lift. 4.8 bolts are the equivalent to Grade 2 SAE fasteners. These fasteners are, at best, good as picnic table fasteners. I just purchased a 20 ton press from HF. The top bar, the back bone of the unit came w/16mm, 4.8 bolts! This is a safety issue. As Tom did, I replaced the junk with Grade 8 bolts. Many of us can't justify the hi cost of big name tools, but if we recognize the fix, we can have, a safer tool.
Anybody building a picnic table, I've got some fasteners with your name on them.
