Re: Finally have my 57 Ford Custom finished.
Such a beautiful car. Congratulations on the completion of your project. Looks like it's ready to pounce on some '57 Bel Air power packs!

The Mass. State Police used the same cars in 1957. I remember in early 1958 going with my brother and he bought a beautiful 1957 former MSP 2dr custom. That car was just like new and it was fast. It looked a lot like Jeff's custom. Wish I had it today. Jay |

Yes.. 428PI... but completely re worked by a local FE guru and friend, Don Palmer. As for the interior, its not done yet.... the front seat and left interior door card will be done in late September.Along with the rear interior quarter panels and the business tray will be installed at that time as well. I have been driving it all the time and doing small fixes and tuning.(a heater core that leaks is now at the rad shop)... things like that.. annoying.. but its all part of a new build. Yes.I have to finish the window trim(corner pieces ) I have switched out the radials for the proper Firestones..... I use them for local driving.. and any long trips, I will use the radials. The FE pulls like a charging Freight train....and I am extremely happy with the outcome. I need to do the welting and rubber mats... and small details in the interior,... but that can wait until I am satisfied with any minor issues. I have a second 57 I am doing as well... it will be 1960 352 powered with a 4 speed.A original Paint 57 Custom 300 that lived its entire life in the Childress TX area.... last on the road in 1971. So my winter will be busy! Thanks all! |

I recall a new 1957 Ford Custom as a lucky draw at Cruckshank Motors in Weston, Ontario. It was also black.

Re: Finally have my 57 Ford Custom finished.
Jeff good for you. I have often thought I'd like to convert my 57 with an automatic over to a 5-speed. Just don't wanna think about adding that third pedal, and all that work underneath the car. Every time I hire work out it seems like a mess.

Re: Finally have my 57 Ford Custom finished.
While Jeff has two 1957 Fords, a Custom Tudor Sedan and a Custom 300 Tudor Sedan (lucky man) did you know that Ford Motor Company were going to offer the same two models, Custom and Custom 300 in 1958, but at the last moment, that apparently didn't happen. The above picture shows the base Custom models. Ford did offer the Custom 300 in 1958. Question - were any made and released before Ford pulled the pin on production? |

Re: Finally have my 57 Ford Custom finished.
The ILL you show above does show in the EXTERIOR MLDGS SECTION of the MPC.
Both (70A - TUDOR SDN and 73A - FORDOR SDN) are shown as 'CUSTOM 300'. It also shows 'CUSTOM 300' with a single spear down the sides. No PLAIN JANE showed (1949-1959 MPC FINAL ISSUE). Let me do some research and I will be back in a few days. |
