I hope this serves as a lesson to other organizations that do not have a system of checks and balances.
Reminds me of Rita Crundwell of Dixon, Illinois. The city bookkeeper. Never saw a day of college, worked in city hall from a high school part time job, eventually made hr way up the ladder to a very good salary around $70K per year. 61 years old.

BUT in the meantime she owned very expensive homes and farm land in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Florida and had a big horse operation going. People started asking 'how does she do it?' and when they finally investigated a few years ago discovered she had stolen $54 MILLION dollars from the city of Dixon over a twenty some year fraud scheme.

She is in a country club prison now but will be paroled in a dozen years, and they can't 'find' most of the money she squirreled away. So, in answer to your point, if you are going to steal do it big because you will come out on top in the long run Some poor schmuck steals from the Git 'n Go because his family is starving and they throw the entire book collection at him.

It usually takes a lawyer to steal that much money.

Shouldn't people in a position like this be bonded? I was the executor of an estate and I had to be bonded. I also had to be bonded when I held a responsible financial position in a local government decades ago. Of course, we were audited every year.

I was the executor of a VERY small estate (few thousand dollars total) and I had to be bonded. That is a good question!

Wow.....it would really be interesting to hear the reason this guy became so angry with Lawson as to "pull the plug". DD
